It relates to the teaching of evolution in schools in the US.

The argument over whether to teach evolution has shifted enough toward the side of facts and reality that just dismissing evolution entirely is hard to push, so a lot of people are trying gradual steps to keep religious explanations in the curricula, including the teaching of Intelligent Design. Despite it being a poorly-disguised Teleological Argument for the Existence of God, it's gained some acceptance.

When this is brought up, evolution detractors will sometimes claim that we should teach both sides to the children, and let them come to the right conclusion on their own.

Being as this is a ridiculous suggestion, many evolution supporters (and unaffiliated Internet trolls) have created the Teach the Controversy meme, where "alternate explanations" are suggested for things we already know good and well the truth behind, such as teaching Alchemy alongside Chemistry or teaching bloodletting and leech application alongside modern medical treatments.

This picture is positing that there was no iceberg that sunk the Titanic. It was Godzilla, the great and mighty. This is patently absurd, we know, because Godzilla does not accidentally 1,500 people, and people do not die at the mercy of the great lizard unawares. When Godzilla kills people, people know who's doing the killing.

Thanks. I would not have guessed that in a million years. I don't understand why believers are so afraid of evolution.

If something is true; it's true. If God exists, if evolution occurred. Those are not necessarily incompatible or mutually exclusive in my mind. I guess the problem comes from the fact that most small-minded and unimaginative people cling to a literal interpretation of religious texts as an easy explanation for the complex world we live in.

In one moment they'll say, "the Lord works in mysterious ways." In the next they think they have everything figured out based on a literal interpretation of a book of myths, hallucinations, allegories and parables mixed in with bits and pieces of history.
