The blue angels are homeported out of Pensacola, Fl, where I went to tech school. I was fortunate enough to be on nights when they started training for show season and went down to watch them several times a week for a month. Everytime I went, I was awestruck.

I'm a Combat Controller and I can validate IRCR's post. You need to be the top at what you do; some of the pilots I've talked to can outdo most of the Fresh CCT candidates in PT.

Also, If you're looking to go navy or Air Force, I suggest you find out where you would like to be stationed first and if you REALLY like water.

When I was in delayed entry for the air force, I sucked at the water. I hated it. But when I decided to go CCT, I went to a pool 3 days a week and just built up my swimming ability.

It's all just a matter of how bad you want it. Anything's possible, just start training right now. If you play xbox or watch TV, do pushups or situps in between shows or games. Run frequently- start of with a comfortable run and then move up to pushing yourself. Make sure to stretch and keep limber.

As for the percentage of those who get in, about 15-20% fail. BUT: the selection for aircraft goes by how good of a student you were. The top students get first pick, normally going for fighter and attack aircraft. Then the lower guys get what's left of the bunch. There's an article somewhere that I'll find but just make sure you study and pay attention to detail.

Good luck, I was going for F16s, and that's all I wanted to do in life. I made it through all the testing and was headed to the Air Force academy, until my physical/health checks... I'm colorblind. Insta-fail. Can't get any cool job in the military and be colorblind, rules out like every combat role, every vehicle operator, and all aircraft.

So good luck! But to all you aspiring military pilots, make sure you aren't colorblind before getting your hopes up. You'd be surprised how little you have to be colorblind to fail.

Also, the KC-135 has a distinctive black nose and leaks mysterious fluids from every seam. Kind of like what will happen to us when we are that old. Some days on my way to work, when I walked past the flight line where they were all parked at, they looked like wounded animals who were begging to be put out of their misery. The only thing I could do was avoid eye-contact and keep walking.

Must be a USAF thing. Every airframe I've ever worked has leaked like a sieve. F-15Cs were the worst though, between the mystery hydraulic fluid that just seemed to appear on the ramp underneath them to the residual gas they pour out every time the engines shut down.

I spent a few weeks working with the JASDF (Japanese Air Self Defense Force) and they took real pride in their cleanliness. If an aircraft was leaking a few drops, they'd de-panel and tear into that jet just to find and stop all leaks, no matter how minor.

It's because figther pilots are almost always making the important decisions and being promoted. So all of the supply, maintance, and comm officers who are aware of the shitty state of our air force never get the chance to help improve the situation. Instead of buying new engines for the AWACS because they are 50 years old, underpowered, and suck down fuel like a college slut sucks down cheap beer, they decide that we need to pump billions into the F-22 and F-35 because they look cool. Thoes same idiot fighter pilots have also been trying to kill and replace the A-10 for years but so far have failed. The latest attemp to kill it involes trying to convice people that the VTOL version of the F-35 is better for CAS because its VTOL. Which is also by far one of the dumbest arguments i have ever heard from an officer. And i have heard ALOT of dumb officers argue. God damn I'm glad i left, i would have choked a bitch by down.

... Sorry for the rant, any mention of the Air Force brings out some bad memories and with that the rage.

I'm going to guess you aren't American. Air force one is the term designated as any air force plane that the prez flies on. He always flies on a blue and white Boeing with united states of America printed on it. That is a normal air force cargo plane.
