Notice that the events taking place during simba's "just cant wait to be king" number are purposefully blown out of proportion and likely the result of a childhood fantasy. When the events of the gorge take place, Simba is presented for the first time the harsh reality of the world he lives in. Hence, Zazu is superhuman(bird) in simba's fantasy, but is just a helpless little bird when Simba is faced with the reality of danger.

He can push a rhino up while his feel are on the ground (he's a surprisingly strong bird), but his wings don't provide enough lift to carry a lion through the air. I don't see how these things are incompatible.

The thing that bothers me about Zazu is that right before Scar throws Mufasa off the ledge, he smacks Zazu and smashes his face against the side of the cliff. Then, for the next 15 years, Zazu doesn't say anything about it to the other lions. A coup was called for from the start.

NO! how the hell would Zazu pick up Simba with his wings (Clearly shown in picture holding up the rino) and fly out of situation. Plus if it were not for Zazu finding Simba, alerting Mufasa of where Simba was, Simba might have died. After that he attempts to get more help but is knocked out by Scar. No you cannot call Zazu a scumbag, he is more of a good guy Greg if anything. Don't fuck with my childhood =D

It was just Simbas wall of kidom falling down around him. In the song, EEEVVEERRRYYYTTTHHHIINNNGG is out of proportion, to show that Simba thinks the thing to be a care free place, during the scene, however, Zazu is just a little bird, isn't a super bird, just a normal one.
