Full Sail is the offering for Oregon?! The state with the most craft breweries per capital and that's what goes on the map? How about Ninkasi, HUB, or one of the other, like fucking a jillion breweries?

[–]the-horace 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Man, I'm not from Oregon, but I had a Full Sail IPA the other not and it was hands down the worst IPA I've ever had, and I've drank a lot of IPA.

[–]gentle_squid 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yep. full sail is good for one thing and one thing alone: session. Those little 11.2 ounce jewels are the best cheapish beer money can buy.

[–]the-horace 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've never had that one, but man I hate 11.2 oz bottles. Give me those .8 ounces you mothers!

[–]gentle_squid 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

it should be ninkasi.

[–]warmpita 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, I saw that and I was just like "Bullshit, Ninkasi should be there."

"Hey intern, find the best brewery in each state"

... 3 minutes of google ...

"I couldn't find one for Idaho. And I've never actually tried most of these"

"Fuck it, publish anyway."

Georgia is Wild Heaven?? Not Red Brick or Terrapin or Sweetwater or shit even Laughing Skull?

[–]Holy_Smoke 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They seem promising for being only like a year old, but yeah I would definitely go with Terrapin over anything in Georgia right now.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Man I remember wake n bake. That was my favourite terrapin ale. But sweetwater's summer hummer I fucking love. I'll have to give wild heaven a try. I was just surprised as sweetwater and terrapin I would think would be more popular

[–]TrentonGator58 0 points1 point ago

Isn't Red Brick the brewer of Laughing Skull?

[–]PunnO 2 points3 points ago

I live in sonoma county and while lagunitas is bomb, i dont think it represents the best beer in the county, let alone all of CA.

As should be obvious to anyone who has tried to get a seat at the Russian River brewpub on the weekend.

[–]tjean 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Took my aunt and uncle to Russian River when they were on their way back to Socal after a brewery tour road trip and they loved it. We had to fight hard for a table though.

New Glarus is pretty awesome. Spotted Cow is their flagship brew, but Fat Squirrel is better IMO.

[–]funkbitch 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Both very good. I wish they sold it here in Illinois. That beer is the sole reason my friends and I take rafting trips up to Wisconsin every year.

[–]WcJessen 2 points3 points ago

Yet another reason to avoid Idaho. As a Montana native I can confirm Moose Drool is amazing.

[–]dkman22[S] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Haha i was confused why Idaho didnt get a beer. I'm from Alaska, while Alaskan brewing co. is good beer, i have to say Kassiks is much better, it's an up and coming brewery. Their 'Wee heavy scotch ale' took 3rd place in the world beer cup.

[–]WcJessen 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've never seen that down here, do they export it to the states?

[–]dkman22[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

not yet, but soon hopefully. They use to just sell in growlers but now they have a bottling/canning operation, its slowly spreading across the state, expect to see it in the northwest soon.

Land Shark is brewed by Anheuser-Busch, that's the best Florida could do?

[–]sionronin 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Nope. Actually, as a local Floridian and a beer lover I usually go for The Holy Mackerel. The guy who brews it actually lives in Fort Lauderdale and owns a bar that has all his different brews on tap. I wasn't much into beers until I met him and actually tasted what good beers brewed by someone who gives a damn taste like. Real nice guy too.

Here are a few other selection.

Also, who the hell thinks Land Shark is actually a good tasting beer?

[–]radioheads6 2 points3 points ago

FUCK every thing about Land shark .. so mediocre.

Everytime this picture is posted I get sad. Cigar City, Swamphead, and Florida Beer Company would all be better choices.

I always say land shark is like corona without the piss

Very drinkable, but there's just nothing exciting going on in that bottle

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I was criticizing the chart more than the beer. I certainly wouldn't turn one down if it were offered me, yet right at the top it says ‘most awesome, best tasting, sustainably brewed, independently owned, community-oriented craft beer’. That certainly doesn't describe InBev-AB.

I will vouch for Great Lakes Brewery in Cleveland however.

Pliny the Elder from Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa California, has 2 beers in the top ten on BeerAdvocate.com

[–]Holy_Smoke 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Pliny the Younger is still sitting at #2. Never tried it myself, but the Elder alone puts Russian River above the best in Cali.

I moved from California ten years ago, and ten minutes ago bought my first sixer of Lagunitas Czech Style Pisner. Pretty good after working outside all day. Just saw this post. Also after ten years in Colorado, New Belgium is good but O'Dells Brewery is way better. Accidentally crushed a twelve pack on Sunday of 90 Schilling, and didn't get any of my homework done, so... Do I get a scumbag hat for telling my life story?

[–]ChickenTaco 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Being from Colorado, I agree with your comment about O'Dells. New Belgium makes some awesome stuff and the Brewery is a must see but the I prefer O'Dells as well. With that being said, I feel like there is an unlimited supply of Micro Brews in Colorado that are equally as awesome.

[–]radioheads6 1 point2 points ago

After reviewing the Map, and look at the fact I have tasted at least 30 of these. I would say that of the 30 I personally have tried, I would only give half of those the 'nod' of approval as the best that state has to offer.

THUS .. I recommend a REVOLT !

List your state and your favorite local brewery!

For all that is the White mountains of New Hampshire I choose.. THE PORSMOUTH BREWERY!

[–]Bear_down88 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This map is clearly flawed in many ways. How do you pick New Belgium for Colorado's best beer? There are plenty more breweries in Colorado that blow New Belgium out of the water; Left Hand, Great Divide, Bull and Bush, Oskar Blues, Strange Brewing, Breckenridge. Also Illinois has Grey Goose, or even Half-Acre which is delicious. As a resident of Arizona I am appalled that people think Nimbus is good. Sure they have an alright selection, but I believe Sun Up Brewing and Four Peaks are much better IMO. And as for Wisconsin, New Glarus is garbage compared to Lake Front Brewing. Sun King and Three Floyd's out of Indiana blows away any thing else in that state. This map just pissed me off.

THis was obviously only good beer for Tennessee. If you want great beer in Tennessee then go with Ghost River.

[–]angerballism 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I need to visit all these breweries. The New Belgium tour is a must.. Make reservations first. Marble is also awesome. A lot smaller but the beer is great.

Really, the best they could come up with from Seattle is Epic Ales? What about:

  • Pyramid Breweries

  • The Elysian

  • Redhook

And that's just off the top of my head.

[–]GymIn26Minutes 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Pyramid Breweries Redhook

The fuck? Both of these guys make crap beer compared to other breweries in WA. Elysian is solid though.

[–]MrHankScorpio 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Here's the thing though, I mention Pyramid because their Hef is fairly well known and Redhook because of their IPA. I personally don't care for either.

But I have never even heard of Epic Ales, much less had one of their beers. I'm not compiling my list based on personal preference (it would be a very different list), I'm going based on notoriety.

Star Hill for Virginia, Good beer. Pic one.

I call shenanigans.

When will NYC declare itself a different state so all the upstate statistics aren't so damn skewed? I've never heard of Sixpoint (maybe in passing), yet it's my state's beer? Luckily I'm hoping to move to the city soon.

Part of me wants to say yes, and the rest says fuck no. Rahr has some of the best beer I have ever tasted. I also think that this is somewhat popularity based as well.

[–]Chucktheduck 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Meh Shiner's pretty marginal in the long run, but I respect your choice. I'd say something along the lines of Jester King.

[–]the-horace 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

How is Ziegenbach, or whatever it's called/however it's spelled?

I'm new(ish) to Texas, I think Shiner is pretty good compared to how prevalent it is, relevant to things like Bud/Coors/Miller lite.

[–]Chucktheduck 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's along the lines of Shiner. My dad and I have only tried it once and didn't care for it too much. Shiner is definitely a lot better than Bud/Coors/Miller lite, though. Usually when I buy Shiner, I get the Black Lager or the Bock. If you ever see a brew made by Rahr, you should try it. They have a good Blonde, Amber, Hefe, Thistle, and Altbier. They're similar to Shiner, but a bit more prominent in taste and style.

[–]the-horace 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Alright, I see Rahr (& Sons[right?]) a lot over at the world market. Bottle tells me to "Keep it Texan", guess I'll have to try it now.

Indiana is Upland? Don't get me wrong, Upland is okay.
I'm shocked as hell that Three Floyds isn't listed. Dark Lord and other famous Three Floyds brews are often listed among the best brews out on the market. Hell, they sell 6k tickets just for the opportunity to BUY Dark Lord on the one day per year that it's available.
