Am I old enough that this is a nostalgic memory for people already? Kratt's Creatures was where it was at. And Wishbone.

[–]sundogdayze 42 points43 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Now the theme song to Wishbone is stuck in my head.

[–]Spysix 25 points26 points ago

And then after was Theodore Tugboat.

Totally watched Wishbone, no idea what you're talking about. That must mean Power Rangers came on another channel following Wishbone. Sounds about like my after school lineup.

THIS was my favorite children's show of all time, with Fred Penner and Mr Dressup as a close second and third!

[–]trauma_queen 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

my favorite episode was the one where Joe started the grocery delivery service. I don't really know why because he was really a dick about the whole thing.

...what's the story Wishbone...I've loved Jack Russells ever since! (little known fact, the dog that played Wishbone was female)

[–]rikkilea44 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Actually there were several dogs that were used for Wishbone. I distinctly remember one episode where his little pink lipstick peeked out :(

[–]trauma_queen 1 point2 points ago

there were like 6 Wishbones- I remember there was a special about it and they were all trained to do different things!

[–]thejepr 4 points5 points ago

I loved that show. I wish they sold a box set of all the episodes...I would be all over that. "What's the story, Wishbone..." Damn it, for some reason, that made me tear up.

[–]fridaythe13th 0 points1 point ago

I watched the intro after reading this thread, and it made me tear up too!

The dog's name was Soccer. Pretty sure he died in like 2004. :(

[–]TehKashmirZ 2 points3 points ago

2001, according to his IMDB page. I was sad that he died, but that was soon overcome by the awesomeness of the fact that he has his own IMDB page.

[–]Awesomekip 1 point2 points ago

He was born on my birthday! I shall remember him forever now.

So I actually work with Zoboomafoo. He's still strong and kickin it at the Duke Lemur Center in Durham NC. His name is Jovian and he's pretty awesome. I absolutely love these guys! and the show was awesome too!

[–]smshingsquashes 1 point2 points ago

oh heeeeyy DLC employee. who are you? had no idea there were fellow redditors around..

[–]trauma_queen 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

that's really cool and great to hear! In my alternate life, I would've worked with primates (Jane Goodall was my childhood hero), but the medicine bug bit me so I guess I have to leave that dream behind...That would probably make a great AMA btw.

[–]thugbot23 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yeah? Jane Goodall's archives are actually now at Duke too! It's unreal the amount of influence and pull the university has in the area. An AMA huh? haha! I don't think I'm interesting enough to do one but I know no one else will since I'm the only redditor I know who works at the center.

[–]trauma_queen 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

best thing my dad EVER did for me (and he is a fantastic father) was take me for a surprise talk with Jane Goodall when I was 8. I was SO star-struck that I didn't go to ask her for an autograph. Really should've...

As for the AMA, maybe you're right, but if you post it at peak time (when Americans are coming off of work) who knows? You might get a few questions, especially if you say you work with Zaboomafoo.

In any case, even with zero responses, you should still know I think you're really cool :)

[–]z999 1 point2 points ago

I've a friend who worked at the Lemur Center for a bit while she went to school at Duke. She actually still goes there, but I don't think she works at the center anymore. I could check, its been a while since I've spoken to her.

[–]smshingsquashes 1 point2 points ago

anyone at Duke can work there, they take tons of volunteers and work study students. its a great place- and the largest collection of lemurs outside madagascar :)

[–]TheBingage 16 points17 points ago

This. I always felt that the Kratt brothers were much more informative and less childish before the puppet, Zoboomafoo got added.

[–]cheeseburgertwd 2 points3 points ago

[–]RedPotato 9 points10 points ago

Ghost writer was EPIC! Best thing ever, though I'm surprise that a show about a ghost didn't freak me out. . I wish I could watch it online... wonders if that exists.

[–]dsdsds 2 points3 points ago

[–]ZMeson 0 points1 point ago

Indeed. My son now watches that. My daughter though watches Zoboomafoo which does still show up on our local PBS as well as PBS Kids Sprout.

[–]channsterrr 28 points29 points ago

I definitely watched that show when I was past the appropriate age range.

When your parents don't have cable TV, there is a very limited selection of summer programming while you're in middle school/high school..

[–]PsychoDuck 6 points7 points ago

This is how I wound up watching so much Arthur (the Aardvark), well past the time that I was in the target market.

[–]Paradox 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ill still turn that show on. Its got more interesting plots and robust characters than 90% of TV out there now.

Plus, its actually in HD, unlike the shit on Discovery/History

(No I don't want to shell out another $30 just to get some of the channels I already pay for in HD)

[–]okayyeah 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same here. My brother and I had to have watched the whole thing, all seasons through countless times by now. There's few episodes we don't have memorized.

[–]ilovecomputers 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same here and I didn't even have video games. My parents really didn't want me staring at glowing screens so much. Nonetheless! I spent most of my childhood staring at the TV. Then my teenagehood staring at the computer.

[–]Vortex17 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same situation here. We didn't have cable so I pretty much spent my entire summers watching PBS and daytime talk shows.

< Kratz Creatures

[–]pannedcakes 24 points25 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Kratts Creatures was so much more informative (if I remember correctly) that I feel it's they're for two completely different age groups.

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think they were.

[–]dogback 5 points6 points ago

[–]Paradox 4 points5 points ago

Thats when I stopped watching television seriously

[–]The_Magagkamack 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The beginning of the end of my childhood TV watching days was when they took the magic schoolbus off pbs. Then they replaced my favorite show, kratts creatures, with this when I was in second grade. I've barely watched tv since . . .

[–]Paradox 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same.

I was a after-school care kid, but the VCR was my savior. I'd come home every day around 5, and there would be Magic School Bus, Bill Nye, Wishbone, and Krats Kreatures on a JVC tape, ready to watch, after a short rewind.

When I came home and found Magic School Bus replaced with Zoom, I got far more depressed than an 8 year old ever should be

[–]redtheda 0 points1 point ago

Kratt's Creatures / Zooboomafoo came out when my kid was little, so I used to watch both. Kratt's Creatures was SO MUCH better than Zooboomafoo, which was like a dumbed down version. I hated Zooboomafoo for that reason. Fuck that stupid puppet!

I also kinda had the hots for the brother on the left. Can't remember his name. Chris?

Side note, it makes me feel old when people post shows from the 90's as being part of their childhood, and I remember them because I watched them with my son.

[–]Leofan7 33 points34 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Zoboomafoo was GARBAGE compared to Kratt's Creatures.

[–]cptcliche 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Too fucking true. It was like they felt that they needed to dumb it down for younger kids.

[–]ZMeson 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Zoboomafoo was created for younger kids. It got my son interested in learning about animals at age 3 -- and he watched it until age 5. I don't think Kratt's Creatures could have held his attention that long. I loved the show for the reason that it got him interested in learning stuff rather than watching Caillou or Thomas the Tank Engine all the time.

[–]The_Magagkamack -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I discovered kratt's creatures when I was six, and loved it. Of course, I also was watching David Attenborough at the time . . . I was an interesting kid.

[–]xyniden 1 point2 points ago

I was wondering why I stopped liking the show--I guess I didn't notice the name change and just thought the show had turned to Crap? I dunno, I was/am very unobservant(I can try to blame it on my ADD[which probably is actually a major player] but that doesn't help solve the problem) not to mention I'd have been like 4. God, I'm way too young.

My first reaction was "How the fuck did this picture get 370 upvotes"(karma votes, I know how the system works you silly goose).

Then I went "Wait, lets look in the comments and see if I was missing anything"

Finally, I realized "Holy shit, this is something nostalgic from the tail end of my childhood. I'm old...ish."

Now i'm somewhat sad. I'm also 22 so probably don't have that much reason to be too sad.

I'm also drunk. This took me about 10-15 minutes to type legibly. red lines are the worst. kinda glad knowone will see this...

LOL I thought those guys were sooooo cuuuuuute when I was a little girl...seeing them in this picture is kind of a shock, I remember them being much more toned and angular.

Some girl in my tenth grade health class told me that I reminded her of a lemur. She was trying to compliment me, telling me that I was cute, but it ended up causing the entire class to call me "Zoboomafoo" for the rest of the year. Fuck that guy. :(

It's a funny thing. I watched that show all the time, but I don't even recognize those two yahoos. I sure as hell remember that puppet, though. I loved that thing.

I remember I would watch this everyday after I got home from Kindergarten. Now I'm the youngest manager in my franchise I work in. I miss being young...

When I was younger I went to a Zoboomafoo signing / meet and greet with the Kratt brothers, and I brought my Kratts' Creatures books for a signing...like a boss.

I am way too old to have watched this, but FYI their new show 'Wild Kratts' is pretty good. My 6 year old is OBSESSED with it and hilariously believes they are in their 20s.
