Good work, but uploading wallpapers to imgur isn't a smart idea, as the site compresses the images, which causes the images to have artifacts in them.

Thank you. I feel better now. I tried (and failed miserably) to get similar shots of a similar storm while camping on the North Rim a couple weeks ago. I still feel inadequate, but after seeing this photographer's work, I don't feel quite so inadequate... I just recognize I'm nowhere near his league, and now I have something to strive for.

It's most likely a composite of many photos taken through the course of the storm. That lightning didn't happen all at once.

My point is that nature is beautiful enough as it is without using crazy exposures, filters and post-processing. To me this is the "nature version" of a person who's had waaay too much plastic surgery. Truly hideous.

To be honest, the more I look at the photo, the more it seems that the sky & lightening above the grand canyon's rim is an entirely different photograph. Looking at the light in the canyon, and the light hitting the clouds, it seems like the light is coming from two different directions.

Long exposure. The amount of lightning is typical for 10 or 15 minutes of a summer monsoon storm.

It was dead dark (no moon), so the canyon is very poorly lit and I have a hell of a lot to learn about nighttime and storm photography, so my shot sucks. Twilight lighting, or a little bit of moonlight (90 seconds, full moon, different trip) can easily light up the canyon like the posted pic.

The point is to show how many lightning strikes a Grand Canyon area monsoon is capable of producing in a brief amount of time. My assessment is the posted shot isn't photoshopped (aside from standard post-processing), it's just good photography by a guy who knows how to use his camera.
