I've actually seen this in real life. I've always had cats. One night I woke up due to frantic squeaking and movements, just in time to see half a mouse crawl across my room. It was going much faster than I'd expect half a mouse to go.

Everything's gotta eat, I guess. I'm kind of desensitized at this point. It's hard not to be when your mom regularly receives frozen mice in the mail to feed the snakes. At the time I was a bit shocked. Not only was I being woken up at three AM, there was half a mouse booking it across my floor, something I'd never contemplated until that moment. The cat swallowed the rest of the mouse shortly afterward. Had it not I would've found some way to kill it myself, but as I said, it was a very confusing situation in general.

I hate this kind of thing too. Their are videos of guys feeding live guinea pigs to snakes, which is not as gruesome as this but just as terrifying.

I would hope to get a reply by someone who owns a large reptile, I'd like to know why they can't eat dead animals or some sort of kibble.

Actually, they can eat frozen rodents. I know the pet stores in my area carry them because I've seen the signs directing people to ask for them. There are the odd snakes that will refuse them, but from what I've read, most snakes will readily accept pre-killed food if it's presented properly.

Live feeding is unnecessarily cruel, and can result in injury to the snake, too (sometimes the intended prey will fight back). In fact, I believe it's illegal in most European countries. I know it is in at least one or two. I wish it were illegal here in the states, too.

I'm not sure why kibble wouldn't work. I think it's either that snakes simply won't recognize it as food, or that they can't make it as nutritionally complete as a whole animal is to a snake (probably the first one, as most pet food companies don't seem to care about nutrition).

such is the way of nature, it happens everyday in nature, everything eats mice, turtles, owls, hawks, cats, dogs, reptiles, snakes,etc

they are kinda like nature's snacks

I don't feel good about watching this .gif, but would you feel good about seeing a picture of a starving turtle? Turtles are a little more voracious than most other animals that I've had, cats will generally kill what they are going to eat first, turtles on the other hand will eat anything that moves in their tank, alive or dead, and they are quite strong so if it doesn't go down in one gulp, it gets torn into multiple pieces, then gulped down not pretty, but nature isn't always pretty

unfortunately in nature rodents fall in the water all the time, my Dad caught a Pike with a mouse in it's belly....I still don't know how that happened

putting it in a tank, no that's not exactly natural and the mouse could have been dispatched humanely before putting it in the tank, but it was a pretty quick death compared to being scooped up by an owl and being impaled on its claws while it carries the mouse away to eat it. This kind of thing happens every day whether you see it or not, sometimes more brutal, sometimes less

Did I need to see someone make a .gif of it being ripped apart, no....and I would never do that to a live animal, but the fact remains, carnivores eat other animals, such are the laws of nature

See my above statement. Destiny is not a justification for anything, because destiny is just a word used to describe the purpose of something. If that purpose is morally questionable, then obviously so is its destiny. The word destiny does not grant moral invincibility by default.

I gave a good example that highlights the folly of this type of thinking. In this case, I mentioned slavery, which is a social construct whose very moral essence depends upon empathy, yet slavery also relies on the propagation of destiny along family lines to justify it. Many would agree that slaves deserve empathy despite their destined predicament.

I apologize for the sarcasm and satire. I probably could have better explained myself.

It's just sad.

We get that turtles have to eat, but watching a mouse die is sad. We get that snakes have to eat, but watching bunnies die is sad. We get that lions have to eat, but watching zebras die is sad.

It's great for the turtle, the snake, and the lion. And maybe we are even happy for them that they made their kill and got that meal that will keep them alive for a while.

But it really sucks for the mouse, the bunny, and the zebra. And maybe we feel for them. That's a lot of pain, physically. Most of the time, they're all being eaten alive. We empathize with that.

That's how I see it, anyway. I guess I can't speak for everyone, though.
