  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

Even before the "attack", the cat was really into it, scratching and pushing her head rather aggressively. Maybe she was in some kind of pleasure trance, and 'forgot' herself, allowing the reflex to activate.

This reminds me of a friend's cat. It would chase it's own tail sometimes and bite it. It would then growl and hiss and bite it even harder, almost as if it didn't associate the tail as being a part of it's body and/or didn't understand that it was causing itself the pain. It would also go from happy as heck and wanting attention to trying to shred your hand in a heartbeat.

Edit - Add "in a heartbeat" because I realized I stopped before expressing the extent of this cat's crazy.

Is that some kind of weird cat reflex? Mine does something similar; if you press against his back paws when he's on his back he goes into attack mode, kicks with back legs, scratches with front legs and bites, it lasts a couple of seconds then he relaxes and goes back to snuggling.

There are neural pathways that bypass the brain to improve response timing, generally known as reflex reactions. In humans there is a direct connection between the ears and the eyes. If there is a loud or startling noise the eyes will look in the direction of the noise before it registers in the brain. So the cat may not be abnormal, just not sufficiently relaxed to overcome automatic responses. They often do this when one tries to rub their bellies, they just can't help it.
