But the stuff he teaches in his shows is going to get people killed. It's not real survival information, and if people follow it, they could get hurt. Examples abound in his Irish episode. In Ireland, you are never more than 2 hours from a house, and unless you are in a forest, you can see that house. Go there. Don't eat raw sheep heart from a bog, and sleep in it's skin. Just walk to a house. Other episodes have him jumping into rivers when he could have stayed dry and followed them, leaving himself open to hypothermia, getting bashed up on rocks, getting knocked out, waterfalls, drowning etc.

Another great example of the fact that his survival information is useless was in the AMA. Question was "What three things should you keep always on your person and why?" A "Bear Grylls" brand knife (which are overpriced, but look to be of high quality), some fire steel, and a picture of his kids, were the answers. Nothing like, say, survival kit, first aid kit, water etc. A picture of his kids. Cause nothing says survival like burning the picture of your family as tinder to start a fire.

I believe he is a good survivalist, I just wish he would tell us.
