I found an abandoned mineshaft at the bottom of a ravine.

It went down into a huge network of rails.

Always lay your torches on one side of the cave! That way, you'll be able to tell the way out.

Make it the left, so on the way out, they're on the right (right == returning, if you need a mnemonic).

I gave up on trying to find my way out of caves, even with putting torches on one side, I get lost.

So, I just dig a mineshaft out, grab the map, and head home. Kind makes the adventure aspect of cave spelunking less exciting I guess.
