Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I thought this might be a good place to share my favorite 9/11 photo.

Shows the oblivious innocence of children in contrast to the world they're going to grow up in.

Is that the same place where Bill Murray is sitting on a bench and they spring the trap on the ghost jogger?

I'm not sure but I think that was filmed in the same place where the beginning of Marathon Man (dustin hoffman) is filmed.

It might be the track around the reservoir in Central Park. If that's the case though then it's unlikely the 9/11 picture was taken there (there's no view like that in central park of dowtown).

crazy picture. I honestly don't understand all of the jokes going on here on reddit about 9/11. Circlejerk is a full page of 9/11 jokes. Every other post is how annoying it is to see things on tv/facebook about people remembering that day.

If those same people sit and watch 5 minutes of one of the many 9/11 documentaries on tv this weekend I guarantee they will feel the same remorse. I think it is just the way some people cope and they feel that if they act like it's not a big deal then in their world it was not.

It was such a catastrophic and life changing event for millions of people. Have some respect for those who lost their lives.

Sorry for the rant.

While I agree that people shouldn't make jokes on the TENTH FUCKING ANNIVERSARY, I think a time will have to come where every TV channel in America isn't mourning it. Eventually we're going to have to move on and get over it.

I understand what your saying but what I'm trying to get at isn't that everyone needs to tune into a 9/11 documentary every anniversary and be all depressed about it. However simply remembering the day and all that happened should not be ostracized.

The History Channel right now, with the real footage, is what's getting to me. I was only in second grade when this happened, with no ties to NY, so it didn't really get to me and I didn't understand that, hey, thousands of people just lost their lives, millions of people have been affected, and this is a huge catastrophe. But seeing and hearing the reactions from the people who were in NY on that day is what's making me tear up and is what's giving me chills.

I was semi-watching one of the documentaries for far longer than 5 minutes, and yes, the collapse of the buildings replayed had an effect. But it didn't make me forget about the 130,000+ civilians we left dead in response, or forget the complete media silence on the matter while talking about our 3000. How about you?

I hate that people always forget that part about the last decade. If I ever try to argue with someone that the US's response to 9/11 was worse in number of deaths then all of a sudden I'm insensitive. Maybe what they're really mourning is the loss of revenue for the companies that had offices in the towers; that would make sense amidoinitrite?

Why did they not perfectly align it.... I mean come on, it's just one step and then you will have a perfect picture, now it's just an amateur photo.

I can't imagine it either because they need to walk forward about 40 feet.

You think anyone cared about taking the perfect photo when this was happening? I think the real issue was a bit more prevalent at the time.

I like the part where even if the towers were still there, you wouldn't be able to see them anyway. Doesn't exactly emphasize the change like most of these types of photos are supposed to.

How is it the wrong spot? I found the location on Google Maps. If you turn the camera around you see the same columns on the building on the left. If you tick forward a few steps, you see the new glass building and the white tiered building in the 9/11 photo. It's 6 blocks away from the WTC complex.

[–]throwninthebin 2 points3 points ago

not the wrong spot but also not framed very well. the original photo looks like it was taken maybe 100 ft forward and is looking upward... thats why the wtc towers look way too small.
