Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports). "Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

+1 mumble. The tech in it is absolutely amazing.

Mutual auth SSL authentication with strong encryption, very high voice quality and still outperforms everything out their for latency (yay CELT)!

I have a group of friends that will only use skype when we play games together.

They say the extra APM it takes to press a PTT button would be annoying and too much of a hassle, so now I have to listen to the constant feedback from their shitty mics.

They do (at least Vent and Mumble), but I've never used/had anyone use it before so I don't know how well it works.

But pressing a button s really isn't that hard.

I use Skype because it's high quality, I don't have to find / use someone else's server, and it's private.

Not having to press a key to talk is convenient as well, but I think you can set that up in other programs.

Not to say clients like Vent or TS are bad (I haven't tried Mumble), but Skype just works better for my purposes.

Most people use Skype for starcraft, because the mic is always on. Pushing and holding an extra button can fuck with your head when you're pushing hundreds per minute.

On a few occasions I had to quickly kill the skype process when it wouldn't hang-up. It's a race before things get awkward. Takes 5-6 seconds, tops.

Skype is like Real Player, it's one step away from malware. Uses your bandwidth for p2p network, doesn't respond to UI actions, is used by countless people anyway who don't know any better and will never give it up. Yep, Real Player.

Protip: steam uses the same codec packs as Skype so the call quality is the same, and it doesn't eat nearly as many resources.

The most annoying feature is when someone ends the call, it plays the error sound to no end until you end the call on your end. Example: I'll be playing BFBC2 online with my friend, he'll have to leave, I'm still in a game, Skype makes the error noise for eternity until I alt-tab and close it down.

Why can't it just make a call ended noise? It's not like the call dropped haha.
