My chameleon gets dark when she's mad. When she is happy, she is vibrant and has high contrast. Sleeping, she's light green. Pretty sure this little guy was trying to intimidate.

Way, way, way, way more. I like to estimate things, and I guessed 10K.

I did a quick google search, and I got a rough estimation of an average human body to be ~95L. In cm3 that is 95,000. I would estimate the chameleon to be a little over 1 cm3 (rough guess). The dude is roughly 100,000 times bigger.

    The primary purpose of color change has been found to be due to social signalling, as opposed to camouflage, although both social signalling color change, and color change for purposes of camouflage do occur in most chameleons, to some extent.

    Yeah, they are pretty high maintenance -- and they will probably never love you, or appreciate being handled by you. We have a 6 year old veiled chameleon, and even though the only time we ever entered his cage was to feed him, he still becomes very defensive / hostile.

    But in terms of gadget factor, chameleons are awesome. Double feet, eyeball turrets, prehensile tail, active camouflage, and sticky tongue that can pick off crickets from 10" away.
