I suppose you could go the route of, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all", but really - that's for toddlers. Considering alternate viewpoints is A Good Thing.

Most of the kids getting those plugs are just doing it because it's "in" right now. It would be somewhat of a disservice to them to not present the opposing opinion - that it looks awful, and is probably a decision they'll regret down the road. The whole, "if you don't like my mods you're a bigot/conservative/drone" line is getting very old. A "freethinking" individual can come to ANY number of conclusions, not just one of unilateral support of all peoples' decisions.

I'm not a fan of body modification (or tattoos for that matter), simply because they are largely irreversible without expensive and sometimes painful procedures. While I have seen some mods and tattoos that look awesome, anyone who thinks that they want X on their body for the rest of their lives is either enormously shortsighted or dare I suggest, a dullard (as intelligence and novelty seeking have a high correlation - the same thing for fifty years has fairly low novelty), or what I suspect is common - they simply stop paying attention to their modifications/tattoos; so unless their sole purpose was to show everyone else, it would kind of defeat the purpose.
