Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

the entire point of the site is to link to other sites.

The entire point is to...repost.

Chill.

[–]blink-me 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No. The entire point is to show neat and interesting things that you would never find out without the help of reddit.

Not to karma whore by posting the same. damn. thing. Every week. It's tiring. It's annoying. It's boring. And I can't stand it. I just want new and awesome juicy content like we used to. Now, the only original content is someone's stupid fucking cat, dog, reddit alien made by a non existent girlfriend, or a picture of their kid doing nothing. This site is garbage now. Well this subreddit is at least. There's a few good small subreddits that keep me staying here.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You should show me where it says that on the website.

The tiring, annoying and boring thing is that you keep posting this same tired shit every single time someone posts something that you have already seen. We get it, you live here. Now shut the fuck up and let others enjoy the website.

Truthful I don't mind reposts all that much, but if it's like the 4th or 5th time in less then a month?

That and this image is old, like REALLY old.

Also with in 10 MINUTES I found the ORIGINAL post from the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. If reposting is not a sin, then not posting the source is. Fail on Fail.

Good work. This is one of the more reposted reposts, by far. Seen it several times myself.

I suppose it's a testament to Reddit's growth - they're getting users so fast that even relatively new content can be reposted and still hit the front page.

Not that this is new, it's extremely old.

funny, someone mentioned the business man in the background. and it is a powerful picture, some white trash bitch who obviously has no education and can't get a good job is forced to join the Military...while the man in the background works for a financial company that buys and sells stocks of companies that produced her uniform, her rifle, her boots, her barracks and prepared her meals while on her "tour".

It's such a sad story. These twins, separated at birth, had never met each other or even knew the other existed. The doppelgangers met at the airport for the first time. The fight began and the blond sister, Mel, took control of Bel. The struggle ended and Mel began to suck the life out of Bel to absorb her power. As Bel shrank and evaporated backwards in time, Mel saw her childhood likeness and realized this was her sister whom she was destroying. They embraced for a moment before the transfer completed and Bel was gone. This picture is of that moment.

Mothers Against Doppelganger Absorption.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_casualties_of_the_War_in_Afghanistan_(2001–present)

Without "your" soldiers these hundreds of thousands of people would still be alive. The soldier in the photo decided to join the military these hundreds of thousands of dead did not choose to be in the line of fire. It's soldiers like that woman in the picture that played a direct role in the killing of all those people. Everyone deserves the right to life, even islamics. The lives of Americans are not worth more or less then the lives of others.

[–]OldRemington 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So, what you're saying is that of all the casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, none of them were killed by the insurgents/terrorists/freedom-fighters/etc? Every single one was killed by American (or other "good guy") soldiers?

Wow, I always wondered when those car bombs went off how they only hurt us, and not the locals. They must wait until all the civilians have left the square before they detonate the bomb. How noble.

I'm not justifying the killings we've done, or saying we haven't, but according to NPR, most of the civilian deaths over there are caused by their own people. We can argue all day that the US invasion has caused the number of attacks to increase, but they were bombing themselves long before we got there.

[–]woocheese 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No but without an invasion there would be no roadside bombs, IED's, car bombings, etc. If there was no invasion then those people would still be living, breathing, and loving people. Due to the invasion they are all dead, not all by the trigger of a US soldier but as a consequence of those same soldiers presence in their country.

[–]quellcrist 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's not always that easy to say people CHOOSE to join the military. Maybe your economic situation forces you to grab the only job you can find that makes you able to provide for yourself? I don't know.

You could also say that by allowing your own country (Iraq, Afghanistan) to become what it was BEFORE they were invaded you are complicit in all the deaths that followed. It's a bit of a stretch, but I entirely disagree with blaming (American) soldiers for all the deaths in these wars. Who has killed more people, is there information on this? Islamic extremists or American soldiers?

[–]border_rat_2 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Without a draft there is always a choice as to whether to join the military. As for the rest, a good start might be "The Fire This Time - US War Crimes in the Gulf." That's what changed my opinion, though it's about the "previous" Gulf War in Iraq in 1991. For current perspectives check out Chris Floyd's anti-war writings.

Every one of these photos should be accompanied by a photo of a dead soldier, and then a photo of a dead 'enemy', whoever that might be at the time.

You don't get to have one without the other, so you don't get to have one reaction without the other. Frankly I find this kind of imagery disgusting in the same way I do photos of rotting corpses. This is a tragedy that we should not allow to happen, not something to be admired or venerated.

If all human beings are born free and equal in liberty and respect, with the same right to life, why wish the well being of another because they are from the same geographical region as yourself? Why not wish the Iraqi insurgent all the best and gods speed? Both fighters are ignorant of the political reasons for the fight, both deserve life, both have loving families, why support one based on their nationality or race?

[–]border_rat_2 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes, we can, and we should. Every day our military personnel rain down ordinance and bullets on people who had nothing to do with 9/11 we are committing, as a nation, war crimes. The worst kind of evil. Anyone, and I mean anyone with half a brain should be able to see through the "War on Terror" at this point in time and refuse to participate.

[–]richalex2010 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What? You spend 7 months away from someone you love and come back, and see if you don't get emotional about it. It's not leaving Afghanistan, it's getting home and seeing her daughter that's bringing on the emotion. Where she spent those 7 months isn't even all that relevant, it could have been NYC or Germany and most people would have a similar reaction.

[–]na85 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

In peace time, to boot.

[–]benedictus 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

"peace time" is an oxymoron for America nowadays. we are in a state of perpetual war and have been for the last 20 years, at least.

the people that lead this country believe military action is the most effective means of protecting our way of life. not to mention the lucre you can get from the government.

in short, we're fucked. that's what this image says to me. i believe it is a failure of society that our nation's mothers are fighting in war zones. because they shouldn't be; they should be mothering.

[–]Khalexus 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

oxymoron

I don't think this word means what you think it means.

But I do agree that it's a sad state when families are torn apart to fight wars. Unfortunately, this has always been the case throughout human history.

Fuck humanity.

[–]bradimus_maximus 2 points3 points ago

One where doing a stint in the military provides opportunities to make a better life for that child?

[–]benedictus 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

that = failure of society. i believe mothers should not have to be soldiers to provide for their children. if a mother needs to become a warrior before she can nurture her child, society has failed her and the child.

seriously, wtf is a mother doing in a war zone?

[–]bradimus_maximus 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I wish no mothers or fathers had to become warriors in order to support their children.

People picket soldiers funerals. Regardless of what you think of the war, if that doesn't piss you off sit wrong with you, please, exit the country.

You mean the Westboro Baptist Church. They only do it because they know it will piss off people like you, not because they're anti-war.

I wouldn't call the WBC "people" exactly...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Wow, 4 downvotes on that so far. You guys picketers and/or really think its ok to not let a person get buried peacefully and respectfully?

How about I come to your funeral and piss off your family? No?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

But, they murder people...for money/education. I'm not for picketing, but calling them anything other than murderers is disingenuous.

Just following orders doesn't cut it anymore. Sorry.

P.S. You're god damn right I ordered the code red!!

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points ago

You should look up the definition of murder and then the rules of engagement. Might help you not make ignorant comments.

Well that makes it all better then!

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That'd be all well and good, if there were two armies fighting. But, there's one army. So, you see how rules of engagement are moot, bro.

Instead, it's a vastly superior military, made up of rubes who signed up and chose to leave their family, against a rag-tag group of people hoping to defend themselves.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

And you keep making those ignorant comments.

Again, you might want to read what the ROE are for either conflict.

Pretty much the only time a soldier is allowed to kill a combatant is if the combatant is attempting to kill the soldier or someone else. Therefore, it would not be murder. It would be self defense.

The ROE has nothing to do with who you are fighting, it has to do with how they are fighting.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Who decides if a "combatant" is attempting to kill? Are there referees? If you think for a second that a soldier couldn't kill indiscriminately, you need to give your head a shake.

[–]rightelbow -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you think for a second that there aren't consequences for soldiers who "kill indiscriminately", you play too many video games. I think that a soldier who is being attacked is in a reasonable position to conclude that a combatant is attempting to kill them.

as she was a captain at the time of this photo...she is over 18 (easily late 20's or possibly early 30's), has a degree (bachelors or higher to be an officer) and would have to deploy to areas of conflict (she's a medic) no matter who she voted for.

just saying.

Call me a chauvinist pig, but I don't believe women - and especially mothers - should ever have to leave their children and fight in wars.

I don't think it has anything to do with equality. I think it has everything to do with honor.

[–]HegPeg 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't mean this as starting an argument, but what about fathers leaving their children? I don't understand what makes it harder for a mom over a dad to leave behind a kid to go to war.

[–]wade_station 7 points8 points ago

Just to be clear, you are saying women deserve to see their kids more than men because women have vaginas? Just making sure thats what you said.

He is saying that is what he believes. Does that mean he thinks we should all believe the same or that we should force everyone to do what he believes? I dont see him saying that anywhere.

I think pictures like these generate such a powerful response because deep down, we realize that there's something not quite right about a mother leaving her child to go fight a war.

[–]Tylerdurdon 12 points13 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

But it does mean she made the choice. You make choices in life. I was in the military, but I wasn't married, and didn't have any kids. That's why I felt it was okay...no one depended on me.

Once you get married or have children, you devote your life to someone else...partially in case of a marriage, fully in the case of having kids (if you want to be a good parent). If you decide to have sex and you are a soldier, you damn well should use protection.

Pictures like this just piss me off because what I see is a parent not doing what they're supposed to be doing. If there was a draft, it would be 100% different as the choice would not be there, but in this case...no.

Bring the downvotes...but unless you can feel the same exact sympathy for a drug dealer who just got out of jail and is hugging their child (equally a choice, but of a different connotation), then you're just a sheep blindly following...

[–]jonnie5 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

what?

It's a stable job with huge benefits and a lot of room for promotion and growth. Also, it's one of the few jobs that men and women are paid equally, because pay isn't arbitrarily assigned to each individual by middle management. It's based on time in service and rank. Now, you can argue whether or not women attain promotions as fast as men do in the military... but it's still more of a level playing field than the civilian world.

I'm a little surprised you have that opinion you do, you looked down on everyone you knew in the military who was married and/or had children? What is the role of a parent to you?

Why did you join? Were your reasons purely altruistic?

[–]Tylerdurdon 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Not sure why you got downvoted, but I bumped you back up.

It's not at all that I'm looking down on others in the military, but one has to face something if they join: everyone's primary duty is to shoot and kill others (therefore putting their own life at risk). Yes, we all get a certain MOS that we decide when enlisting, but that all comes after we all get trained in combat (basic training). Will there be a massive land war which forces our military to use it's military like that? Probably not, but I'm sure you've heard that many troops are also serving in more infantry-ish 'coplike' duties these days too, right?

I think that soldiers are honorable in their sacrifices, but I strongly disagree that being a soldier is something you should consider when you have responsibilities towards other human beings. A child needs a parent not only in the financial capacity (to which the 200k life insurance policy is not adequate anyway), but also as a role model. When you commit to having a child, it's not something for 3, 10, or even 18 years. It's lifelong, and you have to re-arrange your life accordingly because now it's no longer about you.

My reasons for joining were to find out about myself (my capabilities) and to get some discipline. I got that and learned many other valuable lessons.

Idiot.

Most civilian deaths in both Afghanistan and Iraq caused by Taliban/insurgents. Civilians actively targeted by Taliban/insurgents.

America fights Taliban/insurgents

America is the good guys.

Also women arent combat personnel. For all you know she was a medical personnel, providing "free" healthcare to civilians that were targeted by a suicide car bomb who otherwise couldn't receive any care because there are no hospitals in the mountains, until the US army arrived.

Source Maybe someday you might realize that soldiers arent just bloodthirsty killers that shoot any civilian; man, woman, child that they see, and most of what they do is humanitarian by providing aid/healthcare to these people.

[–]piraterum 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Pretty much what I thought. If you care about your kids, you shouldn't leave them to go half way around the world where you may very well end up dead or (more likely) physically/mentally scarred for life. That does not help your kids out. Deciding to have a child under those circumstances is even worse.

[–]DanceCrashers 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yes, she is a horrible mother for chosing a job that may or may not mean time away from her family. who cares if the child get's free healthcare? it's not important that the Army basically gives her a house to raise her child in. and how dare she decide to go to other countries as a medic to help people when they need it.
