I'm the real life owner of this cat. His name is Emilio and, besides having crazy wild man eyes (i joke that his last name is Buscemi), he's a really good cat. Here's the picture as it first appeared on my facebook wall: http://i.imgur.com/KnXQI.png

My girlfriend posted this pic on the something awful forums, and then a few weeks later people started to tell me that my cat had become mad famous. Although it took me about a month and a half to realize that the meme had actually grown pretty damn big (it's hard to gauge the popularity of a meme... there's really no data for shit like this).

I haven't tried to cash in on business cat in the slightest, but I did create a little website hoping to drive donations to the animal shelter from which I adopted him:

So if you love business cat and are dying to somehow throw money at it, please throw the money at this animal shelter instead!

Here are some more photos of Emilio... none of them have the same "look" as the business cat picture because that one was taken in low light, which made his pupils crazy dilated.

I love business cat, but I couldn't really figure out why.

I think it's because there are so many similar traits in the boss stereotype (think Lumbergh) and your annoying cat at home. Both are very demanding, finicky, don't react well to change, think you're their property and have short energetic bursts of insanity followed by extreme lethargy. Your boss will shit all over your work while the cat will do so literally. Your fat, lazy cat will go outside and pretend that he is a great hunter on the prowl when he couldn't get within 10 feet of a bird, while your boss has similar delusions about business goals.

Really, business cat is probably my favorite meme. It has a lot of potential to hit on all of these parallels, and the OP is a great example. Unfortunately lots of business cat ends up being cat puns.

my cat loves the red dot. she will sit on the floor and STARE AT ME, then hop on the desk, sit and start pushing stuff around until i man the control. even knows the sound the button makes.

this one has always been funny to me too.

also, my cat's awake. i have had to stop, literally, twice while reading this thread to operate the red dot.

I have this picture printed out and put up on the fridge and it makes me chuckle almost every time I see it. Our stupid cat spends a good part of the day looking up at the ceiling searching for the red dot and often sits and looks at the red light on the smoke detector until he gets bored because it isn't moving.
