my BIL was a professional clown for a while. He worked for an international fast food chain who has a clown for a mascot (which is apparently near the pinnacle of clown jobs).

Anyway, he tried out to be the Philly Phanatic. It was a very demanding job, that took years to get, and you started out extremely underpaid as the alternate. You had to wait as the alternate until the main actor died. Additionally, you couldn't miss more than 3 games (or something like that).

If memory serves, he was selected, but turned it down. He was making more with his other clown gig.

(Aside: On my first date with my wife, she told me her brother was a professional clown, and I asked if he went to clown college. When she answered yes and I felt bad, but then she laughed. It turns out he did go to clown college.)

Is it just me that happens to enjoy baseball, but dislikes any kind of mascot, animal or otherwise? I find them distracting and rarely funny. It's even more infuriating when you're actually at the game.

Maybe it's just me but this was at a some sports event (football?) where kids are obviously going to be and it seems like more and more kids are being conditioned by media / advertising / the behavior of people in the public eye that it's normal for guys to want girls to show their tits in public and expect women to dress and act like they see on t.v. etc like it's not a big deal. Everyone who's at least 21 I'm sure has noticed ads / marketing becoming more and more "racy". Hell I go to the mall and there's a 30 sq. ft. cutout in La Senza (or some shit) of a girl bending over seductively, sometimes not wearing a bra at all, let alone all the other cutouts in the store! Obviously women can / will and should do whatever they want, but when they see things like this and don't know any better I feel like they are going to be left open to be treated with disrespect later in life because they will think it's normal...
