Mr. Dali actually doted heavily on his anteater, Christopher. The anteater was so named because a dear friend of his, Sir Pedro Ramirez, had an incredibly gifted son named Christopher. Several years before this photo was taken, Christopher hand carved a large anteater for Salvador Dali from a piece of oak that belonged to a wrecked ship off of the coast of Portugal called the Bastion. Christopher later joined the resistance effort in WWII, and the last words Christopher ever heard on June 2nd, 1942 were:

"Ramirez, secure that German M42!"

Salvador Dali received the news of his friend's son's death a week later, and was very quiet about the entire ordeal, but the anteater he owned later on in life was said to be named after Ramirez.

Dali had an anteater when they were underground.
