  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

If you're in the right job, being a manager is such a joke. You just make schedules, gather status updates from your team, and maybe, if it's a really hard managerial job, talk to clients and demo a product.

My neighbor and close family friend growing up had a $200,000 a year managerial job with a large government contractor. He did almost nothing that constituted work, and played golf every Thursday.

Hotel management is the best. Show up when you feel like, fill out a contract form for groups now and then and mail it out. Yell at people for about 20 minutes. Look up cat videos on YouTube with the door closed telling people you'll be in a conference call. Go out for a smoke muttering about "f-ing corporate". Go to a paid lunch from a client. Check out Reddit more. Go home.

I do project management and work allot with my director, for me project management is making sure that things ar on schedule and there are no major functional problems. Also resolving conflict and trying to guide and bring out the talents in people. Finally good management acts like a firewall between the person ell and upper management. We protect our people and fight to make sure they have the resources they need to be successful and do their jobs. Much of the time securing resources for your people is the hardest thing to do

I worked for 9 months doing "busy work". I moved to a design dept that's more interesting but pays a whole lot less. Seems my company mostly works on spreadsheets, meetings and sloping their shoulders.

      It's easy to say what are you doing at a job that not happy with? It's necessity that forces people to stay at those jobs. If there wasn't such uncertainty with moving to the perfect job for people it would happen more often. You cannot beat a steady income especially in these times.

        Well, I work as a web developer. Some times I'm just waiting for response from clients, waiting to have a meeting with managers to discuss what to do next, etc.

        Reddit time, GO!

        Also, some times I'm given a job to finish by end of day and I get it done in 3 hours. I'd rather wait till end of day before saying I finished it. Last job I had I would finish things early and report it, managers caught on, started giving me stricter and stricter deadlines and I never had a break again.

        If you're as smart and efficient as you say you are, you're only cheating yourself. I used to do that. Then I realized I was completely wasting my potential, went to a different company and worked a full 40 hours every week. I was quickly promoted and earn more than double my previous job doing the same work but at a higher level of professionalism.

        It was $72k to $150k. There's additional perks beyond the compensation, namely the respect of my coworkers and being groomed for another promotion. I also get more freedom and better projects.

        Not to mention, it's not a 10 hour work week if you're chained to an office desk for 40 hours, no matter what you're doing at that desk.

              An old habit from the days of limited bandwidth. Gifs are the best way of encoding an image with a limited number of colors, like a logo, or even Reddit's interface.

              That's because the way GIF encodes colors is to make a "nick-name" for the most used colors, and that way it's like encoding a less-than-full-color image. In a case like Reddit's interface, jpeg would be wasting a huge capacity of full-color potential with its encoding scheme.

              So in the end, it's to make a smaller file. As a bonus, my image also isn't going to have any "artifacting" like a jpeg would.

              These days it's mostly unnecessary, because everyone has plenty of bandwidth, but I've been making internet images long enough to still have efficiency habits like this one.

              As a downside, the interface came out looking larger than my browser's. I have no idea why that happened :P

                  1. Arrive at work at 7:30

                  2. Buy breakfast at the deli downstairs

                  3. Eat breakfast at my desk usually while watching CNN or something

                  4. Do this until 8:30, coworkers all do this too so we are all cool about it (work is supposed to start at 8)

                  5. Browse /r/starcraft, /r/tf2, /r/leagueoflegends

                  6. Browse frontpage

                  7. its probably 10am or so now.

                  8. Go to break room and use a presspot to make coffee. Walk around giving people delicious coffee for 30 minutes. My coworkers love this because the coffee machine in our office just makes shitty Community brand coffee.

                  9. Return to desk at 10:30 and do actual work until noon (everyone in my department is SO BAD at their jobs and using a computer quickly that I can turn out what they in a whole day in about an hour.

                  10. Lunch. Usually grab sushi or something with a coworker friend for 2 hours

                  11. Reddit probably has some fresh links now. Reddit for an hour

                  12. 3pm Read some Team Liquid or more news

                  13. 4pm Leave work (work ends at 5)

                  Sure is nice to work in a huge corporation where no one even remembers my name.
