there are a lot of ways. I could do it myself (if I wasn't too busy for such nonsense) fairly simply.

First you take the painting of the last supper and edit jesus out. Then you crop the foreground off of the background and export them as separate images.

At this point, I personally would import the images into FlashCS5.5 and then give each of the images it's own layer, leaving a layer in the middle for the gif image. At this point, I'd try and find a gif-image that was already made transparent (not hard for images like snoop and the KFC guy) and add those in, or crop the gif myself.

I'd then export the frames of the animation out as a series of PNG images (flash's gif export is terrible) and re-assemble them in a gif studio program.

I know you can record youtube videos with realplayer of all things. It may work with hulu and vimeo, but I've never looked into it. From there, you would just use a Gif maker. Someone else could probably explain more about it.
