Vesperia is one of the best RPG's I've played, specially since I love anime.

I just finished Tales of Symphonia last week and I still like Vesperia by leaps and bounds. Symphonia felt way too tedious for me retracing my steps in some of the dungeons/maps/puzzles. The plot twists in Symphonia got way too often past halfways into the game that it became a little old.

Still any Tales game is a good game. I'll be working on the sequal to Symphonia soon.

Don't bother with the "sequel" to Symphonia, it is one of the worst things created. It really is just a cop-out by Bamco trying to get more money from the "Symphonia" name.

Also I find it interested that you liked Vesperia better. I do like Vesperia quite a bit, and Yuri is probably one of my fav RPG characters ever, but overall I found Symphonia infinitely better (it's actually my favourite game of all time). I found the plot in Vesperia very dull, but that's just me.

Anyways, yeah, don't bother with the sequel. Really.

Was just having a conversation with a friend about this a week ago (just beat Vesperia recently and beat Symphonia over 2 years ago now).

I find that Vesperia's battle system is much more enjoyable than Symphonia's. Overlimits are handled better. Free run is great and more options with your Artes are great addtions. Altered artes are fun too. I really only miss unison attacks in that game's battles.

I will agree that Symphonia probably does have the better plot. Different scene based on your in game decisions were a nice touch (yeah Sheena). Cooking is more enjoyable with the optional ingredients you can add for each character. The one thing I feel Vesperia dropped the ball on the most was hiding the Wonder Chef. Symphonia did that beautifully.

They each are wonderful games with their own strong points. Symphonia probably squeaks by for the single player experience, but Vesperia is more fun when multiplayer is involved.

When I played Tales of Symphonia, I had no idea you could choose who to hook up with, in effect. I got Sheena in my first run, no idea how I did it.

I do agree that Vesperia's battle system is better. Basically everything but characters and plot I find Vesperia to be better in (not surprisingly since it is a fair amount newer).

But I just found Vesperia's plot to be very weak; I never felt much of a push to go through with it. The characters were pretty decent (and as I stated I find Yuri awesome), but overall I found Symphonia's characters a lot more likeable. Lloyd is kinda annoying, but has a pretty decent arc as he grows, Sheena is simply amazing, and quite possibly most importantly, I found Symphonia to have the single greatest villain I've ever seen in a game. The final area when you fight The Fugitive/The Judged/The Neglected, and then you fight the final boss...that whole thing blew me away. Because the villain, he's ALL of those things, that's why his final form is those three monsters combined.

I've never felt more sorry for a villain. But at the same time you still have to fight him.

Bummer, a lot of people are disapointed on the sequel, but what exactly is the problem with it? Broken story, broken game, etc?

I really liked Yuri because he was a little older than your typical 'tween saves the world'. Also Genis's weapon always kinda bugged me as a child's toy, yet he was this powerful mage. So much that I never used him in most of the game, then towards the ending I did use him a lot due to his wide area attacks (and plenty of energy reserves to use by end game).

I really liked the 'grim' Yuri who had a more realistic/mature/pragmatic approach to the world (Lost Odyssey's Kaim anyone?) and less of a happy go lucky gee whiz approach, considering the seriousness of the issues and events (in the story).

Also somewhat spoiler I was a little disapointed with all the 'elaborate' plot twists (seriously a tornado turns less than the plot twists in this game) by the end of Tales of Symphonia, one thing that still bugs me is Yuan disappears but it is implied Cruxis is gone. Kinda glaring plot hole for the key characters at the time to forget about him and assume the last of Cruxis will float away. Though I understand he makes an appearance in the sequel.

This is in no way official; just how I feel: the game seems like it was originally being made as some stand-alone game about some whiny main character collecting monsters (seriously, there is a ton of collecting monsters in the game, it's so stupid), but then Namco saw that Symphonia did really well, so they just stuck this unfinished independent game into the Symphonia universe. So the main characters from the first game essentiallly just make these (almost) cameo appearences.

I could only stand it for a few hours. Never gone back to it.

Also, the main character is seriously the most annoying character ever created. He's this insanely whiny, idiotic kid that has constant flashbacks to things that people said a few lines ago.

TLDR: no.

It's the ambiguity of language.

My nose is running, but completely differently from the way I run a mile. My feet smell, but have no olfactory system.

Words have a lot of meanings, sometimes those meanings are very similar while still different.
Consider: "I cut my arm" vs "I cut a hole."

Both are still considering actions with knives. But one is telling us where the cutting took place (the arm) and the other is telling us what the result was (a hole).

You can fire a bullet [implied: from a gun], and you can fire a gun. You can shoot a bow, you can shoot an arrow.
We end up creating specialized verbs for things. The "proper" verb for an arrow would be to "loose" the arrow (and yes, loose, not lose). But we all know how well people follow the "proper" way. and we all know how there is only one "proper" way -- ever.

In a language course (or linguistics) you'll realize how often you utilize words with multiple meanings, and you'll pay more attention to direct vs. indirect objects in statements. And you'll giggle sometimes at the consequences of using wrong meanings, or flipping the indirect and direct objects in your head. Because you'll think of a guy throwing his bow at enemies, rather than his arrow. [Ha! See! You could interpret that as "throwing his bow at enemies, rather than throwing his bow at his arrow" Gosh, wouldn't that be silly? ... Okay. I'm done now.]

A lead bullet in muskets were also known as "shot", because that was the action, you shot the lead, but you also shot the arrow, but because the lead shot was not an arrow, you had to call it something else.

This is exactly why I don't understand folks having a fit over everything that is a repost. There are many things even the folks complaining would not have seen if they weren't reposted.

I personally haven't seen this post before, and I can't imagine I would have just happened to think of searching for "firing bows" or whatever would lead me to an older/original post.

          You CAN shoot an arrow, and you can shoot a bow too, you can NOT FIRE a bow.

          What I think you meant to say was, you can shoot a gun, which is true, as the word shoot implies letting loose (yes) a projectile.

          FIRE comes from early gunpowder based weaponry which you literally had to light a piece of string covered in gunpowder ON FIRE in order to shoot it.

          You can shoot a bow, and shoot a gun.

          You can't fire a bow, but you can fire a gun. Do you get me?

          Perhaps I'm being pedantic, but I find it more incorrect to use the verb "fire" with a bow than to misinterpret the direct object of the verb.

          You fire a cannon. You fire a gun. They propel projectiles with fire. You put fire on them to make them shoot.

          You loose an arrow.

          No, the artist was just being a smart-ass. Due to semantic ambiguity in the English language, the verb "fire" can refer to the subject (i.e. the bow) or the object (i.e. the arrow). For example, you could have asked to see someone "firing a gun", and we'd know you meant to see a bullet flying through the air, and not the gun itself.
