That would have been useful 12 years ago.

It's not NT. NT logon starts like this.

And after ctl-alt-del it looks like this.

It is win98.

Sorry man. This gif comes up every couple of months, in this case 10, and every time someone claims it's NT. The problem is most of the people who enjoy this are not old enough to have ever actually seen an NT logon.

Have a sympathy upvote.

NT was fucking horrible, they should be glad they weren't around the webz surfin and replacing E's with 3's.

By 4.5 it wasn't any worse than win95/98. For its time NT domains were pretty good, though obviously active directory is far superior.

All MS os's took a giant leap forward with win2k.

I don't think I ever saw it progress that much before I bailed on it. I don't think I ever had to use w2k.

2k was a great os. XP was just 2k with a pretty interface that and some annoying planned obsolescence. The only thing that xp does that 2k didn't is IE7 and that came much later. The launch of 2k was only 14 months before XP, they didn't do much to it. 2k made it obvious that WIN9x line was dead and they needed to move all users over to NT kernels, even home users. Voila XP.

Ah, 14 months wasn't really long enough to upgrade our computer back then.(we were running on 4 years before getting something better.

Except nobody knew when Whistler (xp) was going to come out, even microsoft didn't know how long it would take to put a pretty gui on it. Most of us who were sick of NT did so right away and weren't disappointed. I would still argue that 2k was better than xp, it was faster, does all that xp did, didn't have the crazy licensing requirements, and only came in the "Professional" flavor.

I had forgotten about the whistler build name. I still have copies of a few different beta versions out in the garage somewhere.

As far as the 2k vs XP argument goes, I'd say XP took the lead with service pack 2 when most of the overt bugs were finally gone, and the driver support was well established. I never used the home edition due to SMP requirements, so I can't speak to how useful xp home was.

XP... pretty in the same way as a cheap plastic toy.

well technically all versions of Windows after 2000 are also versions of NT but...well yeah the people would still not be old enough to actually see a NT logon

I must say I like the Karmamangler bot, but only for those images that were posted within, say, 1 month or so. In other words, blatant reposts. I'm sure he could put in that filter.

There used to be a privilege escalation you could do similarly by "Open"ing explorer.exe through the help process in a Symantec program. Since the AV software ran as SYSTEM and ran it's help as SYSTEM as well...

Pressing the cancel button also got you into the OS, however no access to network resources,,,

There's a fine line between repost and classic.

[–]douglasr007 0 points1 point ago

and that fine line is always subjective

it's only been there 10 days. Maybe just a redditor who puts on a cape and cowl and saves Reddit?

Is that true? I think it's an awesome idea, but I don't know how the admins are going to feel about automated commenting...it could definitely be exploited.

[–]cdcformatc 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There are plenty of bots posting all the time. No admins have done anything about them since many are useful. Tweet_poster is a good example.

yeah he hit one of my threads once, and got downright pissy when I asked why he felt the need to make such a bot.

I used to do this when Microsoft would lock you out of your XP Machine if you did not have a legit copy, it was patched within a few months.

This reminds me of the computer lab in my middle school. You weren't supposed to get to the internet, but this was enforced by not having IE on the start menu and setting the Novell client policy to lock you out of Flag+R and the task manager.

Obviously clever students could just file->open iexplore or (this was particularly obvious) type a URL in Word and control+click it.

That's okay, want to know how to log into a Windows 95 machine if you don't have a username/password? Just hit cancel, I'm not even lying

did anybody else wonder why there were 2 pointers on the screen only to realize that the other one was their own? oh i'm just an idiot? hokay.

This gif keeps coming up. The person ends up getting full access to the files on the local computer and no network access. What's the point? I could just rip the HD out and put it another computer -- same effect.

Of course, and then you bypass the deflector array and route all avalable power to weapons, its that easy.. And you did all this when you were just 15 yrs old , wow brilliant.
