Yep. The Windows XP background was before vineyards were made.

Pretty crazy to think of how much money that photographer must've made for a shot that wasn't even politically charged.

In all honesty, I'm betting it isn't as exorbitant as you would think. Even though the image is possibly one of the most recognizable images in the first world, it is still just commissioned photography for Microsoft. I'm betting there was a relatively good rate, but no royalties per copy of windows XP sold or anything.
