This is kind of biased anyway; and to be frank there are generous Christians out there too. Dennis and Dee's real dad in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a great example.

Yes, unfortunately this has been reposted multiple times.

I'm not sure if I like its use of authority figures to characterise beliefs either; I'd be atheist with or without rich people being good.

I don't think it's suggesting you become an atheist just because there are good, atheist rich people out there. It's just pointing out the fact that being an atheist doesn't make you selfish and being a Christian doesn't make you generous. I don't feel it's about converting people with authority figures but about educating people on these misconceptions.
