It's better if you tune in about ten minutes in so you don't know what they're making.

Is there an episode on how they make How It's Made?

[–]Big_Baby_Jesus 2 points3 points ago

It's a camera, a boom mic, and a couple lights. Not that interesting.

Crayons are just a bit of wax and dye wrapped in paper, but that doesn't mean their production isn't fascinating.

I loved the old format where they had the disembodied narrator and the hypnotic music. Then they changed it up and started prominently featuring some jizz moper derping around the factories. I don't want to see his stupid ass; I wanna see how it's made.

[–]shawa666 0 points1 point ago

That jizz moper won swimming olympic medals.

It is my firm belief that if I were able to keep a complete library of this show and a couple devices to play the media after an apocalyptic event, we would have a ridiculous head start on rebuilding.

Is that the Brooks Moore one? That's the only one I consider to be legit.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Me too. Brooks Moore is the only proper narrator for that show, the other guys just sound so off.

Something about his voice perfectly meshes with the music and visual delights in a strangely hypnotic and soothing manner.

Love the show, but the only thing I don't like is the lame puns the narrator makes. "Making combs is a hair-raising experience!" and shit like that.

[–]Garrison_Halibut 15 points16 points ago

I love the robo-porn music they play in the background. Also when they slow down the process of whatever they're making, it hypnotizes me.

It's the best parts of the Mister Rodgers' shows.

[–]rube 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ah, thank you. I was thinking it was Sesame Street.

I loved that part on Mister Rodgers.

But I don't really care for How It's Made show, perhaps it's some sort of ADD. I'd rather have a couple minutes of explaining how it's made than a full episode.

[–]macinmypocket 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I have watched that show all day long. I really enjoy when they do 24-48 hour marathons. It's also interesting that I get fascinated by the creation of objects that don't otherwise interest me.

Here's my How it's Made drinking game:

As soon as the episode starts, start the stopwatch. You have 60 seconds to come up with three words that your opponent must drink to.

I came up with "press" "dry" and "worker" and my wife was sloshed before the end of the episode.

Also, if there is a part of the process they cannot show you because of proprietary reasons, you must shotgun one beer.

[–]thangle 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You should also shotgun when the narrator hits the puns at the ends of the processes.

So, I've got a mythtv PC PVR thing-a-majig upstairs, and I set this to record one day... it's on SO MANY TIMES A DAY. It takes up WAY more space than every single other show I record. And only half the time it's in HD.

I'll browse through them and think, "why would I want to watch buttons being made", then start he episode, and realize... holy shit... buttons being made is AWESOME.

Nope...not sure about the grammar in this post...not sure at all.

As long as its with the original narrator. They had one for a year that stunk but then they brought the original back. Best one ever is how they make springs. I could watch that one over and over. How they do that is a cheap knock off.

Ok, grammar nazi time:

The writers need to change the way they write the narrative. The way it's written currently is like this: "Then, they pour the hot liquid into the mould."

In my opinion, it should be written as "Then, the hot liquid is poured into the mould."

Using "they" gives it this strange, unidentified third-person perspective. Feels weird to me.

Grammar nazi time over.
