I'm an American. I knew about him. I named a sweet little grey cat after him. Kitty fell over dead a few months before turning two. Now I'm sad.

I would recommend watching online as well. Not only do you see it sooner, but it's not edited and the music is usually better.

at it's best? that's a huge cockslap across the lips to all the actual british comedians who are actually comedians and not t-shirt designers.

The title is an example of American overstatement. See? We do irony too.

Indeed. Monty Python, Eddie Izzard, Russell Brand... the list is endless. I invite others to supply more examples.

The Mighty Boosh is not funny. It's lame.

[–]nogswarth 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah srsly. You want good British humour then you should look no further than the work of Chris Morris. Nuff sed.

[–]TheBakedPotato 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The elitism in this thread is astounding. I live in Britain and can safely say it's not exclusively intellectual, and that going out into the streets of England you're more likely to find a Boosh fan than a Chris Morris fan. Just because one comedy doesn't fit your exact requirements of 'classic British humour' doesn't make it any less British, because really all that word means is the country it came from.

Saying one form of comedy is good doesn't exclude all other comedy from the region because of your preference, you know.

[–]GanjManUK 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This. There's only a few people I know that dislike The Mighty Boosh, and I'm willing to bet the vast majority of them haven't watched Brass Eye.

It's all down to opinion, really.

[–]N4N4KI 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

the boosh was good, then it just strayed into the weird for weird sake the show gets worse the further through the series you get, there may be an odd gem but i would not consider it worth watching now.

It was better when they had the Zoo to keep it grounded, but there's an audience for the LOLRANDOM stuff that happens. I still enjoy it, if not so much on repeat viewings.

[–]teratron 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Did you watch past the first episode? I thought it was lame at first but after watching more of it I realized how awesome it was.

[–]LiamNeesonAteMyBaby 12 points13 points ago

Could be Monty Python, because that's not a person, but I hope you mean Russell Brand, cos that guy's an unfunny fuckstick.

[–]markovich04 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's what I meant.

Even though Brand can be funny, he nowhere near the top of British comedy.

[–]EnderMB -2 points-1 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What are you on?! Russell Brand is probably one of the best comedians Britain has produced in a while, and definitely one of the most successful lately. His fans can be a bit annoying, but the guy himself and his whole entourage are a breath of fresh air to British comedy.

[–]LiamNeesonAteMyBaby -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't know his fans or his entourage and couldn't care less. The guy's comedy is all style and no substance.

[–]EnderMB -2 points-1 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Then you've clearly not watched or listened to anything he's done, and are only judging him on the celebrity circus around him. As stated elsewhere in this thread the elitism on this subreddit is unreal.

[–]LiamNeesonAteMyBaby 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm judging the two performances I saw of his. Talk about fucking elitism! I don't like something so clearly I'm too stupid to have even seen it. Fucking hypocrite.

[–]EnderMB -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You stated that his comedy had no substance. That's not stating preference.

To be frank given the amount of his work that has referenced his background (the two that spring to mind are his first book and Articles of Faith) I'd find it hard not to list a current, relatively new comedian with as much substance to their comedy as Russell Brand.

[–]LiamNeesonAteMyBaby 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The performances I saw he was reading from newspapers and then making faces about their contents. His stories are only funny because he speaks in a stupid voice, and occasionally he breaks away from the infantilism to lay some sentimental bullshit on the audience. I don't like him.

You know what though? You're free to like him. So fuck off and like him at someone else.
