Does anyone remember playing with these?

I really want someone to make an Android App that is a decent, modern rendition of this. It just makes sense to me. If I could code in java at all I'd be on this.

I remember that the later model Digimon had a pedometer that would add to your xp for every step you took.

So I'm in the fifth grade and I know that at recess I'm gonna be fighting my friend's Digimon and I know he's had it for longer than I have and I'm probably gonna lose.

I go to the boy's room and sit down in a stall and start vigorously shaking my Digimon key-chain to try to get it to evolve, all the while it's making this clicking sound that's loudly reverberating due to the surprisingly good acoustics that all public bathrooms possess.

I shake it for a good while but to avail. When I walk out of the stall several of my classmates who are not aware of Digimon are staring at me in disgust.

Not only do I remember playing them, I remember being mocked by a girl at school because "computer pets" were for girls.

I also remember a number of vehement arguments a year or two later, trying to convince people that Digimon was NOT just a Pokemon clone.

Digimon in grade 3 used to be the shit at my school. I remember getting my digimon to metal greymon, in the first series of devices this was the highest level digimon you could get. I felt like a digi-god. One day, I did a little tour around the playground and I versed a whole bunch of kids, some digimon were so low that my metal greymon would kill them. Yeah, kill them. It set them back to egg stage (the first stage), that was the shit.

Then he died not too long after :( I heard his little death song and it made me sad.

I was in Japan when this came out and it was crazy, all the guys had at least 2. I recently got nostalgic and got a few out and raised them, but quickly realized I don't have the fascination or imagination to see a pixelated creature move back and forth and actually give a fuck, so they all turned to the shit one then proceeded to die.

yeah i played with one a lot, i was a latch key kid but everyone on my street pretty much was too, so we'd always have the latest fad, and this was one of them

when the fad started to fade we essentially learned what circuit bending was with these guys

Didnt play it because 1. I had 2 gigapets from target and one dinky dino that all three got stolen on the same day at school. 2. Didnt have any money after purchasing said virtual pets. 3. There was no one else to battle digimon with so why bother?

Then tamagotchi came out some years later, i asked my friend "how do you battle eachother?" he seemed shocked by my question, at this moment i gave up on humanity. Gen 1 was the best, i never enjoyed the ones where you had to shake and swipe cards

I still have mine, as well as the Digivice and the Digivice that used Armor Digivolving. Or, whatever the eggs were. I think they're all blue as a matter of fact, which is pretty coordinated.

I had one, and when it evolved into its final stage, unfortunately I was in the middle of school and on top of that my battery was dying!!!! I never got a good look, but it looked like a mini bomb or something...

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. I should have posted the context of my question because my intent wasn't karma whoring. My grandmother bought one for me back when I was in middle school, but I was the only kid in the area to actively use it. One day, I let my neighbor play with it and it spawned a huge rivalry between me, him, and his brother. I still remember the day that my metal graymon killed his graymon. We all looked at each other in disbelief, thinking we broke something. Goooood times.

I remember my dad taking my brother and I to Toys"R"Us early morning on launch day to get these. We graduated from Tamagotchi at that point.
