The joy of reddit - it's always not a repost for somebody.

You raise an interesting point. Should we start developing algorithms to scan public Twitter and Facebook status updates for things like this, to notify local authorities automatically? If this is really where society is going we ought to use our technology to address it.

Nice, you even kept it under 140 characters.

BUT WHAT ABOUT @FireDept SPACE?!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Damn, guess you can tell I don't actually use Twitter!

Reddit standards amuse me:

''I hate the way people Tweet about everything, I say that we let them- OH MY GOD, a sign with an orange arrow, I must post this Reddit!''

Yeah, but the building's not on fire in the picture. If it was, I'd downvote

IAMA Fire Protection Engineer.. This is called "pre-movement delay" and is actually quite serious and there has been some good research done on this. The best way has been found to be via audio, with a woman's voice (because people grew up listening to their mothers) which directs people to leave.

If you want to see pre-movement delay in action, watch this video. WARNING NSFL!! It will change your viewpoint FOREVER about fire!!

I couldn't load that video (I have WMP11 but it said I need to install it again for some reason) so I googled it and put these two together. one is a simulation of the fire prepared by NIST, and the other is a survivor's tape of the show. I presume it's the same video. There's no question that getting the fuck out much much faster saves lives . . . just don't fall and block the way.

Sure but casual calls to violence even if it's meant humorously bother me. It's just a cop out for not being creative, and real or not, it creates a violent sentiment and environment. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should die. But not really.

I did just die thanks to my lava incinerator, but luckily I had a bed, so I spawned in my base, right next to all the diamond tools I just dropped.

Oh, okay. Maybe I take things a little too literally, which on the Internet is a bad idea.

It is merely a surprise festive BBQ party for cute, hungry, homeless animals and insects.

"Exit building BEFORE posting on reddit about it" has just about the same meaning.

I once got an email memo telling me the building was on fire. I was told to "refrain from occupying the building". A memo!

They have a rule against tweeting, but they say nothing about Facebook.

[–]ClassicalFizz 0 points1 point ago

In a fire there will be lots of people in the stairwells and tweeters will hold up everyone else from escaping.

[–]3x3Eyes 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No they won't, instead they will be trampled to death by the other more sensible people fleeing the building

[–]optimaloutcome 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is why I tweet while escaping.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

People actually do that?

[–]tygea42 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Someone probably did, I mean they had to make a rule about it. Hopefully it was during a drill and not while the building was actually on fire.

Maybe put up a sign that says if you're religious you'll be fine, stay there and pray.
