Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

You guys all named Chris? Small world.

The number of people named Chris on my facebook is a little ridiculous. My parents' generation was really unoriginal.

I will never forget the time I was living in St. Louis for a summer, and I broke a sweat walking between my apartment's front door and my car parked in the street.

Oh wait, that was every goddamn day.

Yeah man I live in St.Louis too and it's been fucking hell here, 90+ degrees almost every day, was 97+ degrees for like a few weeks, felt like my skin was roasting every time I stood outside for any longer than a minute.

Dude it's only like 88 here today!

Yup, just checked, it's 86 in St. Charles. It's been a great day!

Haven't gone outside yet today, (you can't make me), but when I arrived back here a month ago, my glasses fogged up the minute i stepped outside

Austria here. We only had about 5 real summer-days over the last 2 months (and it wasn't much better before that). It's like autumn started right after spring. That's not weather, that's ridiculous.

It only gets worse since there are no more nuclear weapons tests...

summer is for pussies!

...heaters are on, it's winterly in Germany...

[–]yodamann 0 points1 point ago

What do you mean winterly? I have a reading showing 14 Celcius AT NIGHT. During the day, it is reasonable to assume it goes up to mid-high 20's.

On Why deadphilosopher Is Simultaneously Full Of Shit And More Hardcore Than You

I do not know deadphilosopher. He does not know me. But what we both know is what Austria is like in the summer because we have both spent respectively unknown lengths of time there for indeterminate reasons. And because he knows that and I know that, I can safely tell you that he is lying and that he may or may not be laying in a pool of his own sweat because Austria is indisputably hellish in the summer.

While some might be disarmed by the beautiful countryside and the friendly, healthy people, Austria possesses three traits that might be hyperbolically inflated to justify claims that it is one of the hottest and most difficult places in the world in the summer: no airconditioning, no elevators in apartment buildings, and a totally inexplicable bias against screens on windows that it shares with Germany (Any man with an ounce of sense knows there has to be a more sinister reasoning to this than "It disrupts my view". An Axis plot? Don't rule it out.).

Let's start with the air conditioning. I'm willing to accept that you believe government has your best interests at heart by encouraging you to save power and forgo an air conditioner in the interest of preserving the environment. This is a common policy across Europe. What I'm not willing to believe was the sentiment expressed to me by various German and Austrians that a smidge of AC could be bad for my health. I'm not sure if this was simply a cultural quirk (like they claim about the screens) or some horrifying product of a socialist healthcare system that is attempting to kill off as many patients as possible through heat stroke to decrease total costs and divert the savings into their secret death panels. Either way, the reasoning is bunk and Austrians need to get over their global warming fears. It's a sham!

A bit more understandable is the lack of elevators. Apartment buildings in Vienna have been around for centuries and my acute historical intuition suggests that electrical elevators were rarely factored into building designs in 1798, nor were they air conditioned (not even then!). I suppose I can relate to the urge to keep up appearances in the more historic locales of Vienna but doesn't it ever get tempting to knock down just a few examples of your priceless architectural heritage? If only so you can take a nice air-conditioned elevator to the fourth floor instead of climbing up a stairwell while weighed down with your stereotypical European groceries (milk, coffee, cigarettes, and a kinder egg, nothing else)?

Finally, we come back to the screens (or lack thereof). Oh, the screens. You don't think you need them until it's late at night and you're sweating to death without air conditioning so you go to open a window. No sooner do you lift it open more than a crack do biblical swarms of insects fly through and overtake you. They gnaw at all your softest parts, seeking only the most succulent flesh and will leave you slapping at shadows in the dark. Your Austrian relative will arrive in the morning to meet you for coffee, see you covered in insect bites, muttering to yourself, and sporadically striking yourself, and just smile silently. He'll say nothing but in his eyes you'll see what he means to say: another humbled American and it iz all according to ze plan.

So deadphilosopher, I salute your ability to survive in a land where 99% of the native wildlife is poisonous and the only way to travel through your capital city is through rancid canals. For that, you are more hardcore than I will ever be. But it only fair that I point out, as I have, that Austria is a treacherous and horrifying place where you are liable to be eaten by a drop bear.

It's kinda weird how up here in the Nordic countires (Finland particularly) the last two summers have been hotter and sunnier than ever when to my understanding the rest of Europe has had rainy and especially cold weather.

Well it's been way, way too hot if you ask me so I'd gladly trade places.

It is possible to outrun the sun. Or you could just get a shell and knock it off when you get pulled up into the tornado.

[–]sirisaacnuton 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Also, if you have a tail and are running at max speed and jump right into the tornado, you get launched so high you pretty much fly across the entire map and don't have to worry about the sun. IIRC, you can pretty much just start running at the beginning of that level and breeze through so long as you jump at the right time.

When I was about nine, I had recently gotten a Nintendo Entertainment System from a garage sale down the road, the first gaming system I ever had. One game that I bought was Super Mario Brothers 3, the final chapter of the widely-acclaimed SMB trilogy, which like in the original Super Mario Brothers consisted of Mario/Luigi chasing after Princess Toadstool (whose name has since been bastardized to 'Peach'). Back on topic though; I popped in the game in my new NES and pressed Start. I started at World 1, of course, and began playing. During this, I got used to the controls, map, and all that jazz. After all, it IS supposed to be kinda like a tutorial level. So I had advanced to World 2, "Desert Land" and I was moving along rather smoothly. In the back of my mind, I knew that at some point the levels would start to get more difficult. I soon noticed a tile, one unlike the other tiles (Toad houses, numbered tiles, etc). It appeared to be some cross-hybrid of flowing diarrhea and sand, which caught my attention. I navigated my way to the tile, and hit the A button and was warped to what appeared to be a normal level; there even was a happy sunshine in the top left corner! As I side-scrolled my way through the level, the fucking sun decided to go apeshit and sodomize me repeatedly until I finally broke down in tears, throwing my controller at the ground screaming for my mom. That fucking bastard.

And no, this is not copy pasta.

Fucking Raleigh. high 90's/low 100's for like a month straight, 70-80% humidity. Hell would be better because at least it would be a DRY heat.

I've seen people bitching about 50% humidity this summer. I'm in Florida. I would kill your whole family for a summer of only 50% humidity.

For some reason I can't tell the difference between hot, really hot, and sweltering heat. I went outside the other day, biked 3 miles to the track to go for a run, and biked back. On my return I was informed that it was 115 degrees out and that it was dangerous for me to engage in such vigorous activity. It was a good workout though :)

This has been the worst summer I can ever remember. Rain and clouds almost every day (raining now where I am) and it's bullshit. I went away to SoCal to get away from it, second day there it rained.

[–]diulei 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Haha! It did randomly rain a few times this summer, quite odd. It's been pretty awesome lately though.

[–]JimmyDThing 0 points1 point ago

That blows. That's usually what happens up here in upstate NY, but the past 2 years we have had some awesome summers.

[–]pastanoose 6 points7 points ago

From Dallas, fuck you. It hasn't rained here since the middle of may, temps of 110° F (43.3° C). The daily high temp has been over 100° (37.7° C) for 40 days. at night our low is about 83° F (28.3° C) and one particularly bad night it only went down to 90° (32.2° C). I would love to trade summer conditions with you but I fear half your people would be dead in under a week.
