That reminds me of this one time where a student of mine wrote a word and underlined it with a wavy red line in her notebook. I actually told her she spelled the word wrong before I realized my thought process. It turned out to be correctly spelled.

My name is Edward would be the complete sentence, where 'My' is possessive of 'name', the noun. The noun (name) 'is', which is the verb. Only once it has both a noun and verb is it a complete sentence.

I'm imagining the 'The More You Know' splash screen playing on screen now.

On a syntactical level, the verb is elided but structurally there. Just because something is a fragment doesn't mean it's grammatically invalid! It's not a complete sentence, but is that really important?

To be honest, invoking semiotics here, it's probably more fruitful to analyze the full stop as a symbol of decisiveness, confidence, and the choice to be grammatical rather than as the sign of a complete sentence ("correct punctuation", as the character dude claims).

I'm fairly sure it's valid with implicit structure. In that particular context, "Edward" is a complete thought. Constrained comprehension.

Answering "My name is Edward" would sound awkward and somewhat stilted to most people, as it doesn't actually add any more linguistic precision.

It's the same thing. "The Movie is Edward." People don't speak or write in 100% proper grammar with complete sentences all the time. Doing so would be inefficient.

You're not always forced to have proper grammar, but in situations where you must, remember that a sentence must contain a noun and verb; a subject has to do an action.

For example, if someone says, "which one of you is Wulibo?" I could reply, "I am," and it would be considered a complete sentence; I is a noun, and Am is the verb "to be."

Describing them as extra words is rather subjective. While contextually one makes the connection in their head, grammatically the sentence would still not be complete.

This example you just gave is identical to your aforementioned scenario and the same reasoning applies.

Alternatively, you are attempting some level of sarcasm that is way above my head. Seeing as Edward should be capitalised when standing alone, as it is a proper name.

In fact, you could go so far as to say that the entire point of the comic would be negated by having a lowercase 'e'. But, I'm probably missing your point.
