It's definitely enhanced. Through a sensible Yahoo! Answer (who knew, right?) one can learn that the Voyager 1's camera had a resolution of about 800x800, and it could photograph one colour/wavelength at a time. So any non-b/w pictures are either false-colour or are overlaid with different filters.

The monolith was photoshopped out by NASA prior to publication.

There has been a reconstruction project.

This image is a composite of a whole stack of individual images (its better visible here http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/1105/redspot_voyager1_3072.jpg )

Whenever i think on the voyagers, so incredibly far away, so alone, still feebly sending us a signal, i get kinda sad. Like its never going to make it back home but is still performing its duty. Absolutely incredible machines, ill never forget the first pictures it sent back of Neptune.

<*twitter> Voyager2: Sister ship Voyager1 is 16 hrs 16 mins 24 secs of light-travel time from Earth (2011:218:1L)

In case anyone was wondering, @Voyager2 tweets its own and Voyager1's status and maintenance cycle info periodically. Trivia, I know.

This is one of my favorite twitter feeds, especially the 'light-travel time from Earth' updates. They always make me stop for a minute or two and think about the size of the cosmos.

This has been my desktop for quite awhile now. That storm is so huge that 3 earths can fit in it.

Yes you read that correctly.

I remember watching the news (Sagan and Walter Cronkite?) as the first pictures were being returned. For a 9 year old, it was truly mind blowing.
