I live in a city with a 1/4 acre plot (including my house's footprint). I have managed to grow a garden between my neighbor's house and my own that is about 8ft by 40ft. I picked up an old 1940's canner from Ebay and am able to can so much food from my garden that I have to give some away before the next year's harvest. One can only eat so many tomatoes. In the fall I get bags of apples given to me from people who would otherwise throw them away as yard waste. I turn some into applesauce and juice the rest. I drink it all year round. Over all, this process makes for a very busy couple weeks in August and September with another busy week in October. This process proves to be just a supplement to my food intake. Much of what I eat is still from the industrial complex. But the added bonus of this process is that it has given me a taste for "real" food and has made me more conscientious about what I eat. I read labels religiously now.

I have not yet seen this movie, but I am so glad I moved to a place where there are more farmer's markets :)

Is it bad that is why I haven't watched it? I'm a wage slave, I can't afford to eat better. And I definitely can't afford to be put off the bottom-feeding shite I eat to sustain myself now.

I don't think it has any complaints against your Ramen Noodles. What little I remember about the movie is mostly against fast food, not really other things. And corn. Fucking corn.

Monsanto gets a well-deserved, sturdy beatdown as well.

If you shop smart and cook at home (taking your lunch/dinner to work), you can eat very well.

I am a firm believer of the philosophy that "If it tastes good, who cares what it's made of. Just eat it."

What did you eat while you were captured by Andross?

Nothing. I'm really hungry. Why do you think I eat so much? I eat anything for a reason, you know.

you see, i never understood when people would say that a movie 'changed their lives' but after watching Food Inc i totally get it. That movie changed my life. I know eat organic and i am more conscious of what of what i put in my body.

Agreed. The change was already underway in my life, but it was the political facts that sealed the deal. People would work in the food lobby and then get jobs in the FDA. Nice.

It hurts to consider after watching that. I've switched over to farmers markets and the like because of it

when I visited italy a few years ago I found myself with 2 slices of pizza remaining after we'd finished dinner.... I asked the waiter for a box to take the food and he looked at me like I had a 3rd eye.

after a few months in country I came to understand that Italians want fresh hot food and nothing else...not leftovers (many people don't have fridges)

It's an awesome philosophy...while in Italy it really easy to eat healthy. The food is all fresh and basic and that's the way they like it. In all my months I never encountered lasangna, friend chicken parm, or tons of other "American Italian" foods.

let me get off my soapbox and go eat my chik-fil-a
