Wow, that was really well done. I was wondering what was wrong with that depressing girl. What a strong twist at the end. And, of course, her dad's a scumbag.

There is a sequel where she confronts her dad during Thanksgiving dinner.

How is that a sequel? The OP says 2001 and that says 1999.

Ah. I just assumed that they went in that order because it makes sense narratively.

I would argue that it makes much more sense when you put them in chronological order. Clarissa reveals to the audience in the 99 comic that she's being molested by her father. Think of how this colors the 01 comic, where all he uses narratively is the pajamas being askew and the shadow to convey the molestation. The Mother is also drinking heavily and pretending everything is okay, indicating an aftermath of regret and resignation. And, finally, the stuffed animals suggest that this has been going on for some time, which makes sense whichever way you arrange the comics.

I think it makes the panel of the mother looking away depressed after she gives clarissa the bunny make more sense.

WHY IS IT A GIF

[–]Greggor88 12 points13 points ago

GIFs have a small file size, and the only real tradeoff is a smaller color palette.

I was wondering why it had no sound since it's a GIF though?

Because GIFs don't support sound? It's a picture format, not a flash video.

I dunno, since as a PNG it's a smaller file size.

If it was a JPEG, it would either be freaking huge or filthy with artifacts. If it was a PNG, it would just be freaking huge. It only has like 5 colors, they're all greyscale, and there's no color blending, so it's a GIF and if you don't like it you can feel free to convert it, print it, pin it to your wall and smile at your hard work!

(you can probably ignore the last half of this comment)

PNG also can use a color palette, it just allows a higher maximum size, and compresses more efficiently. In fact this image saved as PNG is actually smaller, only 60kb but still.

Really if it were not for animations GIF would've died years ago.

GIF still enjoys a bit more support. IE6 and some proprietary systems don't support PNGs, or the support is incomplete.

And for smaller images, gif still creates smaller files. But really that's only an issue in some highly select environments.
