I thought the same thing. There is a 25% chance offspring from that couple will have this condition. I am trying very hard to understand the rationale to chance having another child, when they fully understood the amount of pain and suffering their first has lived through. Why not adopt? I just don't comprehend. I'd like to hope there is something I don't understand since I don't have children, but I cannot fathom any rational thought producing the decision to have that second child.

There seems to be a lot of pile-on schadenfreude here, but I'll buck the flow and say that I think doing that was incredibly cruel. It's not like the kid is an adult or even a teen who has a clear boundary between fantasy and reality, he's at a very impressionable age and I'll bet you that he will be affected by this for a very long time.

People who would do this to a very little boy have no business being parents. Further, I would think it safe to assume he is tormented by these people in other ways as well. I hope he somehow comes out as a normal productive human being, not wanting to exact revenge on those who did things like this (and worse?) to him.
