I remember reading this one as a kid and thinking it wasn't as good as the ones with snowmen or sledding. Now, years later and somewhat aware of how corporate economics work in this country, I laughed after re-reading this and then got scared at how close it hits.

C&H is such a great example of a comic for grown-ups. I read them as a kid but I only truly understand them now that i'm older.

I've got all the books somewhere, I think at my parent's place. I should dig them out.

I have had this exact comic in my cubicle for years. See upper left: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6020/5999014070_9e8a50ea85_o.jpg

My mom shipped my entire C&H collection out here to CA for me last week. I forgot how awesome these are.

Looks like Ford, Chrysler, and GM have been following Calvin's business model.

Calvin is a satirical genius. I actually learned that word as a kid from C&Hs.

Watterson continually commented on the juxtaposition between 6-year-old Calvin's way with words, but yet lack of knowledge about things like... electricity. Brilliant.

It's the final panel that really makes this comic, too. A wonderful summation of how corporate business doesn't respond accurately to basic market principles such as supply and demand.

I used this cartoon for the first day I taught my class economics. Not only did they love it, they couldn't believe it was ten years old!

You started teaching sometime before 2006, I take it.

How does one "stumble" on Calvin & Hobbes? That (brilliant) shit has been around for decades.

After this strip, I pulled out all my old C&H books. The last strip of Its A Wonderful World made me cry

It's funny how accurate this is and why our country is so fucked over by corporate power

I never got that one until... just now actually. Although, the same could be said about most of the ones where he uses big words. Still the best comic ever.

When I was a kid I used to think this comic was boring but now I'm fascinated by how genius they are.
