I'll toss my hat in the ring for Batman: The Animated Series.

I'm sure I would have liked Gargoyles but it always over before I got home from school. That's how shit was in the 90s after all.

Batman: TAS is, in my opinion, the best cartoon of all time.

Batman was a great show. It was a quick you want to get the whole story in one sitting. It wasn't until Gargoyles that I wanted to know the ties back stories of all the characters involved. That and it always seemed like it was to be continued.

Right, like all the dimensional rifts and Goliath's redheaded girlfriend? Gosh, that show was a soap opera.

It started great, and definitely got silly toward the end. Classic jump-the-shark, in my opinion, was when Xanatos married Fox. And by the time that Avalon crap came around, it was all over. Also, whenever a show hits up time travel, it's a lonely road ahead.

Well, keep in mind both my parents worked during the day and we didn't have a VCR that could schedule recordings. Adds to up TS for me.

Tried watching through this recently but it just wasn't quite up to scratch, the animated Spiderman show though, was thoroughly entertaining still...

One of the best cartoons of all time. And it holds up too.

The voice acting was amazing as well. Keith David (The black guy from Riddick oh and a ton of games Halo 2 and 3 and Mass Effect) was the voice of Goliath. That's just the beginning.

Most of them were from Star Trek TNG. (Thanks reddit)

Mostly why I started watching it - to see if I could recognize more voices from TNG.

Yeah, I loves me some Mass Effect but when Captain Anderson speaks he's Goliath first :)

After thinking about it I remembered that this was the show that made me truly curious, as a kid, about Shakespeare. Macbeth, puck, etc..... I had heard of Shakespeare before then I'm sure. But this actually made it cool, in my mind, to find out about Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

It was a time of darkness, it was a world of fear, it was the age of Gargoyles.

I'm guessing you missed X-men...

[–]Secrete_Persona[S] 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Not at all. X-men was great too. I'm not saying it was the greatest show ever. I was just too young to appreciate X-men first airing. I get a lot more out of watching it now. Gargoyles just hit when I was old enough to comprehend and young enough to care.

[–]Shamwow22 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The voices in the X-men animated series are awesome, and i'm glad they used the same actors for the games (X-Men Vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, etc), but the animation in the show wasn't the best, and it really hasn't stood the test of time.

Batman: The Animated Series, however, is just as good now as it was when I was a kid.

[–]andrewsteff410 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Batman: the animated series was criminal psychology for kids. Dark before the Dark Knight it will always have my respect for doing Natman Justice. And Mark Hamil was genius.

i can respect this choice..for me it was Robotech because of the episode to episode continuity.

[–]Morial 1 point2 points ago

I really did like Robotech too, but man its age really shows.

[–]Serge_General 1 point2 points ago

Ah, Robotech. The last time I had a good reason to wake up at 6am was when that show was in syndication.

<3 this show, i hate how they stopped halfway through releasing them on dvd

I'm guessing you never watched the X-men cartoons. Episode 1 starts off with sentinels hunting down mutants to help purify the human race. Serious stuff.

That was a bit before my time as a kid, but I did get a chance to borrow the box set from a friend that I worked with, Great series. Macross.

Did this show grow up to be more relaxed or did it always stay serious?

[–]Secrete_Persona[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It started going into Scottish folk lore with a lot of influence Shakespeare's Macbeth so serious.

[–]weatheredruins 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It gradually got to be serious. This and Reboot started off campy enough and became incredibly dark.

never heard of it.....AH! it never aired in sweden..........but its pre 2000 so it must be good.....

looks similar to batman in style...

i did watch batman alot when i was growing up...swedish batman is the shit........
