Yeah, I am reading with a filter, and I am also not educated in the subject matter but that still makes little difference in my pointing out the potential sensationalism in the article. I do not need to be an expert in animal behavior to see when an argument is being framed in a certain manner designed to evoke certain responses from the reader. "begging for it's life" is, for me at least, a phrase intended to evoke a certain kind of sympathy for the reader. And by placing such a statement after the Doctor's observations on the video are potentially misleading. For me "begging for it's life" adds a level of anthropomorphism to the loris and is, in my humble opinion, a leap from what is observed in the animals body language and general appearance. I am not trying in any way to discredit the source, but more are seeking to look at how that source was framed within the article. And, in my opinion, a little skepticism is necessary so that we can avoid ascribing truth to what I believe is only observation. For me, it is hard to move from watching two videos of loris' in unknown situations that are exhibiting stressed and submissive posturing to the loris begging for it's life because it is being tortured. I generally trust no one, and am very ok with thinking that the loris is showing signs of distress and ill health while also holding the possibility that the owners of the loris may not be treating it all that poorly. This is also disregarding the question about whether or not it is ok to keep wild animals as pets, and any other unfortunate circumstances that may surround the trade of the loris as a pet, my only concern is noticing how the article uses the very relevant and credible source to evoke a sympathetic response by anthropomorphizing the loris and framing the sources observations within sensationalist language. I most likely have not expressed this opinion clearly, but I still believe that it is important to closely read and continue to be skeptical of how authoritative sources are used to construct certain kinds of arguments. I also believe that the_foo_makers comment that he does not like being tickled and believes he is going to die is similarly sensationalist, since the Doctor only say that the animal is exhibiting behavior that normally is expressed when confronted with a predator, whether or not such behavior indicates that the loris "believes" it is going to die is impossible to tell, since we can never know what the loris is thinking only the way that it is outwardly expressing itself. For all I know Doctor Nakaris's comments could have been taken horribly out of context, and with that possibility and a very limited selection of information I feel confident in my skepticism that these loris's are being abused.
