TIL in America the ladybird is called a ladybug. TUL in England they call it a lady bird, not a ladybug.

Calling it a ladybug actually makes more sense though. I imagine in about 1700 somebody in Washington thought 'wtf why do we call it a ladybird? THIS IS AMERICA, AND ITS A LADY BUG'.

Composite. The chances of the two being caught in mid-air are astronomical. The weight of the ladybug would make that flotsam drop to the ground faster than you could focus. I call bullshit.

I don't think it's a composite. More likely someone just put a ladybug on the seed and dropped it in front of the camera while taking the picture. Do it 20 times or so and you'll probably get one like this.

If you look at the original artist's DA page, you see they were out in a field somewhere taking pictures of those seeds flying around already. So it's not totally bizarre to think this could have been captured at that time.

Ah yes, the asian ones are little bastards (that occasionally actually bite), though I didn't know that they could release allergens - thaks! I don't believe this is an asian ladybug in the picture, but that's nitpickery. Anyway if he's a dog, he probably is eating them, which likely amplifies the effect.

You know what? The other day I was mowing the lawn and I noticed a lady bird infront of me. I kind of push the lawnmower, and then pull it back. So I do the same patch of grass a few times to make sure I get all the grass cuttings so it doesn't suffocate the grass. Anyway, because I'm in one place doing that for a little while, I noticed a lady bird. I really thought to myself 'fuck this shit, I can't be arsed I'm gonna run it over'.. Then as I edged closer I thought I CANT DO THIS. I picked it up onto my finger and looked at it, closely... in admiration. Then it flew away, and I carried on mowing the grass.

Before this, when the weather here in England was just hot enough to sit outside and enjoy it again the grass was probably just higher than your ankles. (we dont cut the grass year round like in America where it's mainly hotter) So, I was cutting it just throwing the lawnmower about and not focusing on a specific area to make sure its nice short and good looking grass. I felt the lawnmower 'drag', or kind of 'not cut', if you want to put it that way. Turned it onto it's side... slime...fucking everywhere. Carried on cutting the grass hoping all the slime would go away, most did.. and I finished the grass.

Moral of the story is, FUCK TOADS. and GOD BLESS THE LADY BIRD.
