What camera are you using? Aperture priority or was this Manual? What ISO, f/stop, ect ect ? Did you use one of those sensors that actuates the shutter when it sees bright light? I've always wanted to capture lighting. Amazing shot!

It might be related to the fact we "capture" an image in a photograph. We take possession of the image and then take it away with us.

You also get in film a "take" being a single continuous scene or capture.

I don't know just musing you made a good point :)

"Scientists know little about what happens when lightning hits water. The electrical current probably spreads in all directions, weakening as it spreads out. Since large numbers of dead fish aren't found after thunderstorms move across bodies of water, the current probably weakens in short distances."

I don't believe it. Look at the reflection of light along the water. That is the reflection of a moon rising. But where is the moon? The shape of the lightning is curved to the left, but the reflection is pefectly straight, and where the lightning meets the horizon it does not line up. Therefore, I call bullshit on this photo, good sir.

edit yes, I know it's featured by National Geographic... so that makes it automatically genuine? I think not.
