I was considering putting a NSFW tag on it, for that reason exactly.

Same here, like a baby. made me think of two dogs I had when I was a small kid. My parents got them both before I was born, so I had never experienced life without them. These were dogs that acted as canine protectors to my younger self as well, not just pets. These were dogs who would wake my parents when they wouldn't hear me cry in the middle of the night in my crib. Both of them died in the same year, one of them due to cancer, and the other laid down right in front of the back door. I was fucking seven, and it was my first experiences with death. Fuck death.

touching story, i too have dealt with and am currently dealing with a pet getting ready for death now, very very sad and even disappointing, this puppy doberman, who has congenital heart or liver disease, is not even a year old yet i've watched him grow just as a child grows, will be sad to see him go... and eagle i have to admit when i first read your comment and you mentioned both of them died in the same year i definitely thinking that you were referring to your parents.

Good story. It reminds me of how my dog always used to get up and come downstairs to greet me when I got home. Even if it was 3 a.m. I would pat him on the head and rub his face and tell him to go back to bed. And the older he got the longer it would take him to come down, sometimes he would have to track me down all the way into the basement. But he always got up to say hi.

I'm going to be in the same boat pretty soon too man. My dog which I've had for 13 out of 19 years has kidney disease and is going to have to be put down soon. This kind of stuff slaps me in the fucking face and there is nothing I can do about it. If you think you can handle it...watch this short film. http://vimeo.com/8191217

"I kicked pot for good and learned to turn negative thought into 'art'"

ಠ_ಠ

[–]ethraax 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

While there are people who can smoke pot with no consequence, there are others who find it very addictive. It can be a very serious negative influence on these people, as they'll live their lives around it, like any other addiction. I'm not saying it's that way for all people, or even most people, but deciding to stop smoking pot isn't really a bad thing.

[–]positive_tension 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Deciding to stop smoking pot certainly isn't a bad thing. But the phrasing of that line - 'negative thought' seems to imply that pot is a bad thing, if you smoke it, its because of problems you have, which simply is not true. And yes, people do find it very addictive, but people also find coffee, gaming and reddit very addictive, but it would seem strange to talk about how you 'kicked coffee/gaming/reddit for good'.

[–]tjsfive 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I took it to mean that he used to use pot to deal with his negative thoughts, but now uses art instead.

[–]ethraax 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yet I hear people talk about stuff like that all the time. How many people have you heard talking about how they "quit WoW for good"? Probably quite a few (assuming you know people who played in the first place). I also know people who use programs that will block websites like reddit for when they want to get work done, because otherwise their addiction comes through.

I've still never had a dog of my own. Recently took one in for the night during a thunderstorm, he was running in the road. He had vaccination tags, but no i.d. tags. I called animal control the next day, and they found his owners. His master actually came to my house to thank me, and told me the dog's name is Jake. He was a very well behaved dog, it was nice to wake up to a wet nose in the face.

Fuck, I remember reading this comic before but every time it makes me start to water. I had a beagle before and we had to put him down, but I loved that dog with all my heart. At first I was the same with him as the kid in the comic. A dumb 9 year old. I was just ignorant of the fact that he is just a dog and I expected him to be some perfect specimen. As I grew older I really started to appreciate him and at least the last 6 years of his life I really started to take care of him. I would tell him things I didn't tell anyone, he would always cuddle with me in my bed and I remember the day he had a seizure and my parents told me they had to put him down; I was 20/21 at the time and I had a nervous breakdown. My best friend since grade 3 was being taken away from me in just one night and I still remember kissing him good bye before my parents took him to the vet, I didn't sleep at all that night.

R.I.P my buddy :(

TL;DR - I really miss my friend.

I called her Susie. I took care of her, fed her, washed her, got the vaccinations, you know the stuff you do. Then she got sick and died on the day of my b'day. Well, I do miss her more than my ex.

I had a rescue basset hound named Elsie. Elsie was already middle-aged, and had scars all over her body from god-knows-what. A couple of days after we got her, I gently took a look at her teeth, and discovered that a good many were missing. BURST. INTO. TEARS. Spent the next several years, until she died of lymphoma, spoiling her utterly rotten. Never sat down without her sitting in my lap, being stroked like Cleopatra. Cooked pot roasts and scrambled eggs for her all the time. The last sound she heard was my voice telling her I loved her, and the last thing she felt on this earth were my hands on her body. If I die, and Elsie is not there waiting for me, somebody is going to be answering some damn questions, because I will be one pissed-off woman because I never had a human friend as close and precious as that little basset hound. Elsie girl, come find your Mama when the time comes, and we'll be together on the other side from now on.

I am just raining tears here. Ah, why do we have to hurt so much, just to know what it is to love another being so completely?

I had had a dog since I could remember. He was a pretty good friend and he was always there. He wasn't very active, but I didn't care, I enjoyed going with him on vacation and watching him roll around on the grass. I sometimes had to walk him in the afternoon. It felt like a chore. One day, our dog got really sick. He wouldn't move. So we took him to the vet, they did some tests on him. He came home the next day. He was sort of okay, but he got worse at night. He lied down on the kitchen floor and wouldn't stop moaning until someone came to see him. I kept getting woken up by him moaning, I would go there and pet him, and he'd quiet down, and I'd go to bed. Eventually, I fell asleep and didn't feel like going to the kitchen again to comfort him. My dad kept going, though, and the next day I learned that my dad had actually slept on the kitchen floor with my dog, just so the dog wouldn't moan. The next day, he went to the vet in the morning, and in the afternoon my sister comes home crying, saying that the dog needs to be put down. I went to see him. I pet him, I hugged him. He was in a roomy cage, covered in some blankets. After I hugged him, he fell asleep. I was watching him for no more than 2 minutes when he suddenly jolts and starts having a seizure, like he was trying to bite something imaginary behind him. It was horrible, as his eyes' third eyelid was still closed, and it was just a horrible scene. The vets took me into a room, showed me a 3d model of the tumour in his spine, which looked pretty cool, even in that terrible situation. They said he was going to be put down. I decided not to stay there and see it, so I took a cab home. That seizure he had was the last time I ever saw him. Right now, walking him wouldn't feel like a chore at all.

Sorry

This hits home for me - my dog's only five years old, but I already feel like he's not getting the love and attention he deserves. He used to get three walks a day, fetch time in the yard, tummy rubs in front of the TV... all of those things have been cut in half, at least, since we had our first kid. We have a two-year-old and another kid on the way.

I just don't have the energy to be the friend to him that I once was. I try to be, frequently resolve to be, but I can only sustain it for a few days at a time. We still have fun, I take him to the park or the beach as often as I can (it's actually a nice excuse to escape from parenting duties now and then), but my overwhelming feeling as a dog owner has become guilt. I'm holding out hope that once the two-year-old gets a little older, he'll show more interest in playing with the dog, and the three of us can do more stuff together. Not sure if that'll work out how I'm hoping it will, but for my dog's sake, I hope it does.

Came home after a late night (HP7) and was not greeted by my doberman at the door. My roommate was outside in the back with her. But, for a few fleeting seconds before I realized what was going on, there was terror, fear, and a slew of other emotions that culminated into one phrase: "where the hell is my dog?!"

[–]undefined_one 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Wow, ok I'll admit, the animated story didn't make me cry - I got a little misty eyed, but no water works. Reading everyone's comments and seeing pictures of all your departed buddies, however, is whipping my ass. It's just so sad. And when someone tells the story of their friend passing and attaches a pic to it.... the onions are cut. Putting a face with a story, and picturing that furry pal in the poster's story makes me feel it - right in the cockles of my heart.

[–]directrix688 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's a great story and why I try and take a moment at least once a day to give my dogs some attention. It doesn't take much to make our furry friends happy, they really just want you to spend time with them.

Reading this has just reminded me of the dog, Bonnie, that my family had (I say my family because she was around a year before I was born) She helped my mother give birth to me, I was 2 weeks late, and my mum coming down the stairs managed to trip over her. Landing on her stomach and finally going into labour. That story always stay with me. I always loved her more than anything growing up. Like this story, later in my life I wouldnt pay so much attention to her, I got used to her being around. We then had to put her down 4 years ago because she had devoloped bowel cancer. I never felt as distraught as I did, only after she had gone I realised how much she did mean to me. Even now, I wish she was here

I have a new dog from the shelter now for the past 2 years and I can't imagine going through that again. But it's worth it. On a related note... my next dog will be named Thunder Bastard. Around anyone else I can just call him TB, and if pressed I can just say it stands for Tiberius or something dumb... but we'll know... we'll know.

I object! I have a friend (a girl) named Sari and I think it is a pretty name.

I would like to read this comic but I've decided to boycott any comic that is that format. When you zoom in it gets like 3 words per page so I will not try to read it.

Do you know how this is reposted? So often, it made Imgur's The Best Images of 2010 feature.

oh look, someone seems to be dicing onions in my room. odd ;_; I go to school in TN and my old english sheepdog that I hand picked out of two litters is at home in TX. When i go home to visit, she just explodes. There's no other word for it. 100lbs of happy. She has caught on that i go away for months at a time. Now when i go home, she looks at me with those big brown eyes every time i go out the door as if I'm leaving for school again. Breaks my damned heart.
