Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I don't think Mr. Potter would approve.

Yeah that's obviously where you put your Harry Potters, what are those books and blankets doing in there?

I actually have a secret mini-room under the stairs in my house. Sadly, I've never found a use for it. Maybe I'll watch a maraton of Harry Potter movies before I watch part II

[–]jsmayne 1 point2 points ago

that is clearly meant to be a fap/shrine room.

Or you could just use, you know, the closet that is always there.

[–]nhrn 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Have you ever opened a closet and found it full, then realised that your tent which you last used two years ago is right in the corner and you now have to clear the entire fucking closet to get at it?

That's alright, it's just like playing a game of reverse Tetris, followed by a game of regular Tetris.

Of course! All my hours of training can pay off...wait, now I remember why I found it difficult, I sucked at tetris...

Replace that closet with a narrow attic with the floorplan of a 4' diameter tube, and yes.

If you have that much stuff in your life, you should probably start getting rid of all of the crap you don't use for 2+ years.

[–]nhrn 0 points1 point ago

Tents+sleeping bags+board games+my dads old snooker queues+trophies we can't really find anyplace else to put+spare torches+a small table for some reason(honestly I don't ever remember buying that thing and I have no idea how it got in there)+shoes and coats.

Not that much stuff and some of it get's used often, it just turned out this particular tent hadn't been used in awhile.

Where are all these houses that don't have stairs under the stairs, or a regular closet under the stairs? And the space I really want use for is that huge 2nd story space above the stairs, which is a pain in the ass to paint.

This is for all those places with no soil and no tornadoes. Real houses have basements, not just bedrock anchors and a crawl space.
And basement stairs go under the main stairs to save space.

[–]Gargilius 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

...and what goes under the basement stairs?

[–]THLycanthrope 2 points3 points ago*

Good point. Usually failed brothers or X-mas ornaments.
EDIT: all night and only 3 people got my movie reference :( I'm old.

ISN'T IT ONLY TWO BECAUSE YOU START OFF WITH ONE UPVOTE!

YES. YOU ARE CORRECT. I WILL GO CRY VERY LOUDLY UNDER MY STAIRS.

[–]hiplesster 1 point2 points ago

The little room we store our luggage in. If you want a bag, any bag, it's down there.

[–]fjonk -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Do you want stairs under all stairs?

[–]stoopidquestions 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Why not? I guess I hadn't thought about houses without basements, but generally, the best use of space in a multi-story house is putting the stairs above/below eachother.

[–]kellogg 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is how my house is. The stairs are in the middle of the house, so there are railings on both side. Under the first floor stairs are the basement stairs, with a door on the left side of the stair wall. The second story stairs are directly above the first as well.

[–]fjonk 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Sometime the stairs have to stop:) Or maybe it should be stairs all the way..

[–]Rustyfist 4 points5 points ago

Many of the new houses in Ireland have a small toilet built in that space.

[–]mind_the_gap 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same in Mexico.

[–]Gargilius 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same in California. Well, at least that's how my house does it.

I prefer the reading area with shelves built into the stairs more, but I'm a book worm.

Also those are some big ass drawers. I hope they can withstand a good deal of weight pulling down on them.

Oops, my bad, I wandered out of r/Minecraft. Please carry on.

[–]LNMagic 1 point2 points ago

Any idea how to build this? This is similar to the kind of cabinetry I'd like to build for my kitchen.

[–]crumunch 1 point2 points ago

Clever if you don't want in house stairs leading to the basement. Or if you don't have a basement.

[–]ItsHammerTime 0 points1 point ago

Well how the hell do I get to my basement now?

That's where I store my asshole nephew.

[–]bkay17 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I feel like the norm of just a closet underneath the stairs gives you more storage space. This isn't so much clever as it is a waste.

[–]u_suck_paterson 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

seems like an over expensive/elaborate system for something that could be just a plain cupboard. I guess you have easier access to stuff that might be at the back, but come on..

[–]the_trev 2 points3 points ago

Stairs.

The most untapped source of house storage since drawers under the bed.

[–]chris-martin 0 points1 point ago

If you have a 2+ floor house and not enough space to store your shit without resorting to trickery like this, you might have a problem.

[–]platipress 0 points1 point ago

Clever stairage space.

Whenever I hit the lottery jackpot, I'll gladly hire you. I insist on five staircases with this design. Make it happen.

[–]dzkn -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's not clever. It's actually a bigger hassle than regular closet doors.

[–]u_suck_paterson 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

exactly, not to mention a bigger expense. What a waste of money
