  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Rewatch the Brazil/USA quarterfinal game. Brazil deserves at least one Oscar.

Came here to say this. That chick from Brazil played it up enough that they took her off the field on a damn stretcher, then she jumped off the stretcher and ran back onto the field. It's even worse than this.

Unsportsman like?

But of course if you don't think your team can win by playing the game properly then sure, cheat and pretend you were hurt by another player to get the upper hand.

Did that guy just spit acid in the black guy's face? What am I watching here??

[–]5il3nc3r 1 point2 points ago

Soccer has tons of "fake" assaults. That is, as soon as there's a situation where they can pretend they were injured by the other team, they will take it and act it out as much as possible, hoping the other player gets a foul.

It's underhanded and hilariously stupid. Soon, they're going to have mandatory acting classes for Soccer players just for this. ಠ_ಠ

One of the MANY reasons I can't stomach the sport. Why can't they just ban embellishment like they did in hockey?

[–]lbmouse 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Can't watch it either, but TIL they still play soccer in countries that wear shoes.

[–]Yahkubs -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There are a handful of players that fake assaults in an attempt to receive a free kick or get another player ejected. It doesn't happen nearly as often as soccer-haters like to believe. It certainly is underhanded and hilariously stupid, and all of the other players of the game hate those who do it. and the fans especially hate it. Its similar to how much people hate the players who use steroids.

[–]evelution 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

"handful"? You must have some pretty huge hands. In the last couple of world cups, there was at least two blatant dives per game.

[–]Yahkubs 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

true, but that is because those handful of players who decided to dive, dive often. those multiple dives are often the same players diving more than once.

[–]FsckItDude_LetsBowl 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It should result in a lifetime ban when discovered post-facto. It's that injurious to the sport.

[–]Yahkubs 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

agreed. maybe only a fine after a first offense. especially if its as blatant as some are. like the Brazilian in the U.S.A./Brazil quarterfinals match of the women's world cup a few days ago. but the players really need to learn that it's not right to do this.

Are they actually able to pull fouls out from this acting? I've seen a lot of gifs like this

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They do it because they have a good chance of getting away with it. So, yes.

[–]bruestle2 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Do they not get penalized for calling fake fouls? I'm thinking if you ask the referee to call a foul or give a ridiculous performance like that and they don't give the other team a foul, you should get one instead.

[–]lopsiness 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They are if the ref thinks/knows it's fake. It's called simulation, diving is another term for the same thing, but during a game where it's a position where the guy will act as if he's been fouled in order to secure a free kick in a dangerous area.

I think by law it's a yellow card. Unfortunately for refs, these things happen at such speed, in crowds, and often when other things are going on to distract the officials, that it's hard or impossible to know absolutely if it's real or fake. While it's super obvious to us, the ref doesn't get a replay and multiple angles and has to make up his own mind on the spot. This makes refs very hesitant in dealing out punishment to either party.

[–]WarPhalange 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Solution: add in replays for refs. If the camera caught it, he should be able to review it.

[–]lopsiness 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The old white men in charge are against it, so it won't ever happen until a new generation of people come in that all want it to change. Everyone cites the football stoppages and talks about how soccer shouldn't be stopping every time a foul is called. What they don't talk about it more reasonable applications.

Anyway, while this seems an easy fix, it's actually an old option that has been kicked around for some time and isn't getting implemented any time soon.

The more realistic option is post-game reviews where they can retroactively add suspensions or retract cards suspensions, but this too is likely to be seen more as undermining the integrity of the ref.

The whole thing is a corrupt old boys club.

[–]WarPhalange 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

But you wouldn't need as many stoppages once people realized that faking a fowl = penalty.

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's the conventional wisdom.

[–]RationalNT 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I always thought that a major issue was that implementing it league wide would be costly to some extent at least. Some stadiums might not be able to afford the equipment, and no one would want to front them the money.

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well, it already exists in the cameras that are already used to broadcast the games. Hell, by the time the team get done arguing over penalties and red cards, we've all watched the replays a dozen times. The fourth official can review and use his ear piece mic to tell the field ref and the field ref can stop the game. Not perfect I guess, but no solution will be.

I do see your point in that not everyone would be able to have it since they have the money and stands and get regular broadcast time. Perhaps, only the top level leagues a la EPL, Serie A, and international tournaments. Maybe lower level league teams wouldn't be able to afford it if they get promoted.

Anyway, it would be tough getting the whole thing done with money and logistics.

[–]RationalNT 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Also, money is always a good excuse to hide behind.

[–]thinsoldier 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Have a team of refs off-field looking at every camera at all times. 2 refs per camera. They should be able to quickly radio the on-field ref and let him know it's an act.

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I believe the argument i financial in that you have to pay them for that, plus they believe it undermines the field ref. See, to the assholes in charge believe that the talking point of refs is necessarily part of the game.

[–]thinsoldier 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well for the big televised championship games whose outcome can have international ramifications (or trigger a post game riot because a bad call made the home team lose) they should have special "high accuracy" rules that utilize the cameras and extra refs.

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They do sometimes. While this is ridiculous on replay, the ref, who may be preoccupied or in a bad position to tell, may think there is actual contact. The simulation is often hammed up to convince the ref, even if the ref isn't going for it.

It often leads to shit like the gif on this page where the guy peeks through his hands to see if he's actually getting anything out of his bullshit.

[–]RanRanRuu 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

One day, someone on a football field is going to get punched in the face, and the ref will red-card the guy for diving.

[–]sj_user1 1 point2 points ago

Video from every game should be reviewed and any player found to be diving should get a red card banning them from their team's next game.

Honestly, I feel as though part of the difference between men and women's sports is that women seem to want to act tougher, whereas men, also already considered tough, try to milk it like, oh I'm tough, why would I fall over on my own?

If you want to be technical about it, soccer is a type of football, as is American Football, Australian Rules football and many more.

The point being, calling it either soccer or football is correct.
