Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Even if we are making the world warmer, and we start doing things to curb CO2 emissions, there are still a lot of questions about the application of these techniques. Let me tell you a few reasons why this whole global warming religion is bothering me:

Wired Magazine had an article about global warming saying that we need to get rid of the rainforests because they are net contributors to C02, and that we should rely on nuclear energy because it doesn't produce CO2. Now the nuclear argument is attractive because nuclear energy can (in theory be safe), but in practice: fukushima, chernobyl, three mile island etc. and it produces toxic waste. I'm sorry, but it just does. And the waste is going to be around for longer than you, and longer than your children.

Cap and trade legislation was written by Goldman Sachs, BP etc. etc. Now I know a lot of Democrats love these companies because they are big contributors to Obama, but remember the BP Oil Spill? Remember the derivatives catastrophe? These guys are fuckers. They are all out for their own interests and the reason they give loads of money to Obama is for ACCESS TO POWER. They write legislation because they profit from it. Same shit happened with Enron.

There hasn't been any warming in the last ten years. The sea levels are going down (for the last two years at least) and the predictions that got us all scared are not coming true. The world is okay right now. We have time to think this shit through. It is not as urgent as Al Gore says.

Al Gore is making a shit ton of money out of this (not to mention all those lovely awards). And he produces way more CO2 than the average American.

They are talking about putting shit up in the sky to stop sun rays from heating up the planet. I mean... come on. That is just more pollution.

CO2 is now a deemed a pollutant by the EPA. But CO2 is a naturally occurring gas, is nowhere near harmful in the quantities that we produce it, and is essential for life on this planet. Without CO2, we would all die very soon. This is just a fact.

So, even without denying the global warming argument, and sticking completely to the facts, there are a lot of reasons to think twice about this issue. And people who think that the world will be a better place if we enforce BP/Goldman Sachs-written legislation might do well to consider these arguments because (and I'm sorry to have to say this because I'm sure they are often bright and well meaning people), because they sound like brainwashed idiots to a lot of us who have bothered to check out the issue at deeper levels.
