Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I would like it better if this gif had sound.

I use to have this whole scene in lightwave. I don't remember where it came from but it was the actual models/textures used in the movie. It was amazing. I use to render it on my old Pentium 200mhz monster and feel like the king of the universe.

I tried watching that movie for the first time last week. So boring I couldn't make it through it.

Sorry, your opinion is wrong.

No, it's just not a very good movie these days. Back then it was, but by now everything that was good about it has been done better by several other movies.

I suppose it's just a matter of opinion, but I can't think of a newer film which has a more atmospheric urban dystopian setting. All the sets are filled with detail. Also Rutger Hauer's performance is incredibly intense. But then again I'm a guy who typically likes older films better than most of the stuff from the past 20 years.

Wow. These discussions can be funny. Especially with movies that almost all critics and aficionados respect. Especially so when the complaints are about the an element of the piece that is both extraordinary and essential: pacing. The slow, deliberate scenes were stark contrast to the busy technological world. Discovery, self-discovery, is slow, and there isn't enough time.

I guess we should ask these cinema people to watch Jim Jarmusch's "Stranger Than Paradise". Their terms could be used: "boring", "uneventful", "pointless", "no interesting story", "no thematic connections". I believe that they could use that phrase, "Everything that was good about it has been done better by several other movies."

I propose that we ask these people to submit to a Voight-Kampff test. "You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, . . . "

There is some detail, but it's all so covered with smoke you can't see it. I noticed in just about every shot there is smoke in the air. WTF is going on? Did the government set smoke machines around the entire city? Does every single person smoke? Yeah there is plenty of atmosphere, but a lot of it is super cheesy if you actually think about it.

But the plot is very basic, with your expected developments. Again this may have been more groundbreaking back then, but now I found it quite dull.

The characters are quite 2D and very dull. They don't have any real depth. It's like the characters were written for a children's cartoon and didn't want to confuse people with complicated characters. The performances were good from most actors, but it's not like they were asked to do a whole lot.

Sure the atmosphere is pretty good if you don't think about it too hard(if you do you end up think how stupid a lot of things are), but that is all it has going for it. It was a trend setter for sure, but overall I found it very mediocre.

All in all people should just read the book, it is much better in every way. But I never did get around to reading the later books.

He's right though. I watched it for the first time last year and was appalled at how uneventful and pointless the entire thing was. It muddles its way through a few scenes of exposition, there's a foot chase or two (I don't remember if there was a flying car-chase or not, which isn't a point in the film's favour), a bad mystery, a couple of predictable twists, another footchase/fistfight, and then it ends. No character development, no interesting story, no thematic connections. Just a wierd little speach and it's done. Not exactly quality filmmaking.

The only thing good or remarkable was the bleak cityscape, and even that's been done to death by now.
