WHO, WHO DOESN'T WANT TO WEAR THE RIBBON?

[–]RondoW 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm wearing the ribbon, he's wearing the ribbon, we are all wearing the ribbon. So why aren't you going to wear the ribbon!?!?!

[–]Y_U_No_F_OFF 2 points3 points ago

You know what you are? You're a ribbon bully!

"Stick a ribbon, made in China, on your Cadillac. It's LITERALLY the least can do" -Bill Maher

[–]bw1870 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Bill, the least you can do is nothing at all, literally.

[–]nemoomen 16 points17 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well, then you're not really doing anything. The least you can do is to do some very little thing.

[–]broden 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

How about thinking of putting a ribbon on your Cadillac but stopping short somewhere between thinking and completing.

[–]jesticle 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's literally (really this time) impossible to really do "nothing", to be fair.

[–]bw1870 -3 points-2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If we include zero as a valid quantity, then the smallest quantity, ie. "the least" would be zero, or nothing. So the least would be nothing.

We support, the end man who did nothing, but made 5% by having this in his store, the middle man who sold it to the end man and arranged delivery for a 3% charge, the transportation company who shipped the boat load over from other country and added their own fees per magnet, back to the maker who printed and attached said logo to magnet, and the mining companies who dug up necessary resources for said process, the oil companies for the transportation, the environmental benefits / galas thrown to stop all of the alluded, but not directly stated pollution. It would have been easier to irradiate the world, or just not buy the stupid thing.

TIL that those are magnets and not stickers.

[–]burgess_meredith_jr 5 points6 points ago

Which makes them easy to steal. I used to have a "Support Farting" ribbon. Stolen. Then I got a "Support Partying" ribbon. Stolen. Needless to say, my "Support Drinking" ribbon lasted but a few weeks.

I get them at Wings in St. Pete Beach, Fla. They support all the important causes.

[–]Wakasaki_Rocky 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Funny, because I steal them from cars in the St. Pete Beach, FL area. Got a sweet 'support drinking' ribbon not too long ago.

[–]burgess_meredith_jr 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Do you at least support drinking? I'm willing to let it go if you're passionate about the cause.

[–]Wakasaki_Rocky 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I am extremely passionate for the cause.

[–]OmegaVesko 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Use glue to attach them?

[–]burgess_meredith_jr 26 points27 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I dunno. Ruining your car's paint job in the name of a "Support Farting" ribbon is a bit too Alpha for this Beta.

[–]dpzdpz 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Maybe they sell a ribbon that says "Support Death for Ribbon Magnet Thieves"?

[–]burgess_meredith_jr 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

My "No Fat Chicks" straw hat is losing its shape, so I'm due for a trip to Wings anyway. If I can pry them away from their important work, I'll mention your idea to one of the associates.

[–]zyedy 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Honestly though, these things piss me off to no end. Send a care package, or a letter, or best of all lobby to have them come home. This is a stupid, empty gesture.

[–]Hindu_Wardrobe 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Exactly. Those who say they "support the troops", I always ask how many care packages they've sent. Oh, none? Shut your mouth then. You support them with words sure, but you aren't actually doing anything.

Bring them the fuck home already.

[–]CiD7707 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Care packages are a godsend in some areas.

Send more Sudoku and ranch sunflower seeds, please!!!

[–]Hindu_Wardrobe 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you're overseas, and want some goodies, I would be more than happy to send you a little something. I'm not rich, but I can afford to send some sunflower seeds and sudoku for sure. PM me if you want anything, for serious. :)

My boyfriend is overseas currently so I know how hard it is for you guys.

I wonder how much comfort, if any, it provides to friends and family members of those in the armed forces?

[–]zyedy 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's a good question. Personally, I'd probably find it - not disrespectful, but irritating that random civilians pretend to understand their difficulties. Some may find solace in it.

[–]ferrarisnowday 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, I could see people having either of those reactions. If the yellow ribbon was just a symbol for "I personally have a loved one in the armed forces" it would mean a lot more.

[–]pcnerd37 0 points1 point ago

The whole ribbons for support thing has to be one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen. If you support something, then your support should be more active than just throwing a bumper sticker ribbon on the back of your car.

[–]DZ302 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

well typically the ribbons are like $10, so you are donating to a cause, and receiving a $.25 magnet.

[–]pcnerd37 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Money only gets you so far. Investing your time and physical energy can make a lot bigger difference than just money can.

The best is when they take off that magnet, and find out their car is worth 4K less because there's a shiny, unfaded spot where the magnet used to be. Brilliant foresight.

[–]DirktheGerman 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think people buy them because they feel the money they spent on it donated to the cause they're supporting. As I typed that though, it sounds retarded because the military definitely does not struggle from a lack of funding.

[–]Y_U_No_F_OFF 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Correction the children making these magnets.

[–]sophic 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I was under the assumption that the proceeds of these magnets actually went to charity. I guess I was wrong, wow.

[–]GregoriousC 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Actually, "the guy in China" is the manufacturer, the guy in FL is the distributor, and the unmentioned guy who "Citizen Neon" bought it from would be the literal seller they "support." Therefore, the product is defective. It's saving grace is that it's magnetic and will not damage the paint once the owner realizes his own idiocy and gets rid of it.

[–]whattacos 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It will leave light scratching since there's a 99.9% chance of dirt being between the magnet and paint.

Displaying any political opinion or belief on your car is just whiny attention-seeking, at about the same level as those who wear t-shirts with 'witty' slogans on the front.

"The people who drive behind me...they simply MUST know my political and/or religious leanings! I'm sure they're every bit as curious as I am interesting."
