That's actually Anak Krakatoa (Child of Krakatoa). The name sake was completely destroyed in the 1883 eruption.

And to think that that thing rose up out of the water only 80 years ago, on top of it's predecessor, which exploded with a force 4x greater than the largest nuclear device ever detonated.

I would be scared shitless if I lived near that thing...

On that occasion wasn't the explosion only that big because of the shape of the volcano, which allowed the entire erupting crater to be instantly filled with water, with the resulting water vaporisation producing the bulk of the force?

4 times greater? I'd be scared shitless if i lived within 2,000 miles of that thing.

I would have loved just the volcano without the driftwood, but it doesn't stop it from being a great picture.

Beautiful! Something about the contrast between foreground and background gets me.

The big dipper on top of this picture really makes it amazing. This picture is truly awe-inspiring.

The 1920x1200 has been stretched horizontally.

DON'T STRETCH PHOTOGRAPHS. CROP AND SCALE.

I did that, doesn't really look different to me.

1920x1200

1680x1050

I have been staring at it for about five minutes and really can't see any major distortion between the original and the resized one.

The most I could discern is that the rocks in the bottom left might be a little wider in the resized version.

I didn't say it was major. But it clearly has been stretched if you look at both of them resized to your browser window and click back and forth.

Also, 3000/1950=1.538

but 1920/1200=1.6

He shoved the whole image into the new aspect ratio instead of cropping.
