it's 100% possible, as far as I know. Chromosomes split and half the genes end up in one gamete, and half in the other. Both of these gametes end up as viable eggs. The same thing happens with sperm. I can't think of any reason why you couldn't reassemble 2 eggs into a viable zygote, since the eggs themselves are split (and contain copies of the original gametes that formed the mother).

It's not like each haploid only contains receptors that will only bond with the haploids of sperm...? (someone prove me wrong here; i'm not a geneticist)

The only thing is, they wouldn't have any y-chromosomes, so they'd only be able to have daughters. We'd be looking at the birth of a true amazon society; they wouldn't need men for anything. Except killing spiders and waging war.

I can. A viable zygote is produced after a sperm fuses with an egg. Also, gametes aren't original copies...think meiosis.

right, but what's IN the sperm? 13 diploid chromosomal pairs... The eggs don't produce identical sets of gametes (otherwise your chillens would all look very similar). Isn't it that each chromosome can split up in either in gamete 1 or gamete 2, giving you 226 possible combinations of your own genetics in each gamete? But if each chromosome can split in half and either results in a viable gamete, then I'd say the gender of the chromosomal contributors is irrelevant.

Yes, fertilization requires a sperm. But what if you take a sperm, remove its DNA, and replace it with the DNA from a woman's ova? My contention is that this will produce a viable offspring that has 2 biological mothers and no father.

Like I said, I'd welcome the chance to be proved wrong on this, but I'd need a citation, and not just an explanation (unless you're a master wordsmith and are well versed in genetics)

I have no idea where you are pulling those numbers from. Human diploid number is 46, a diploid cell has 2 copies of 23 chromosomes. Gametes are haploid, having unique 23 chromosomes each (most of which are similar to another haploid chromosome, except the Y/X chromosome), since they undergo meiosis (basically mitosis twice, which cuts their number in half - along with genetic recombination). With the genetic recombination (cross-overs), the number of total permutations is not 226 (I'm not certain how you even got that).

And as for the 'replace sperm DNA with ovum DNA', it's not viable in the long run as I'm sure you can research inbreeding, and is currently beyond our technological/biologic capabilities. Which comes to another interesting point, I wonder if scientific breakthrough will produce an artificial womb first, or achieve self fertilization first.
