To give them a serious response:

The reason you can confidently enter your credit card into iTunes or your password into Facebook is because they're encrypted. The math that allows cryptography to function was developed several hundred years ago and at the time thought to be completely useless. If it wasn't for its discovery, though, the internet and the markets as we know them would not be able to exist.

With regards to physics, the GPS you probably rely on when hiking or navigating an unfamiliar city requires the theory of relativity to function. If the GPS satellites only used Newton's theory of gravity, and not Einstein's relativity, the GPS would be off by up to several hundred yards, rendering the GPS pretty well useless.

The science that you're dismissing as not applicable to most people's lives may very well be extremely useful in the future. It's extremely short-sighted to dismiss it as useless now and irresponsible to foster such an anti-science attitude among other people. Even if we never find direct applications, things that build off of those theories may be useful to us, and even if not, we're certainly not worse off for knowing them than we would be if we did not.

If you really think that science is as useless as you say it is, then I challenge you to go without the fruits of its labor: stop using your computer, the internet, your cellphone, your car, the safe food supply, medicines, or any of the other scientific marvels that our entire civilization is literally built on top of.
