The bodies of the former teacher, principal, and college professor are partly dissolved in a barrel in the closet.

Incorrect, he was actually "just down the hall the whole time."

With Turner. Who I was sure had died.

[–]dvdov 23 points24 points ago

They never resolved it. He just went teacher > most important person in Shawn's life > motorcycle accident > never mentioned again and insignificant

[–]DevinDomino 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I read a recent interview with Rider Strong (Shawn) where he said Mr. Turner and Mr. Williams were only brought in because around that time, Friends was getting hot so all the shows were bringing in new 20 something charcters to kinda keep up with the trends and I guess they just ran out of story lines for the characters.

[–]Scurry 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Mr Williams was always a filler character, but I think Mr Turner had a lot of potential, essentially becoming Shawn's foster father. They at least could've kept him until the kids went off to college.

[–]DevinDomino 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Even if they kept him and he becomes Shawn's guardian (which would have sucked cause I enjoyed the Chet character) there wasn't much storylines there. What could they do? Oh Shawn got in trouble again let's have Turner remind him of how many people care about him for the 500th time. I really don't think it would have worked or at least have much positive effect on the show.

Topanga went from geeky girl, to hot teenager, to plump 20 something. I'd still hit it.

Eric went from a completely normal teenager to a character from Looney Toons.

[–]Damonstration 38 points39 points ago

Agreed. He got WAY too stupid. Although he still pretty consistently made me laugh.

[–]DiggingNoMore 20 points21 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

He was the only thing holding that show together as it went from a comedy to a drama. Basically, Eric was the reason to watch the show in the college years.

[–]thebigbradwolf 38 points39 points ago

That seems to happen to most shows that run several seasons. Writers start to run out of ideas, so they take the comic relief and push it to absurdity. If done too hard, it can derail a tv show. See: Jerkass Homer

family guy

  • stewie: evil genius to homo
  • lois: caring normal mother to spiteful nympho
  • brian: comic relief to liberal douche
  • meg: normal albeit unpopular teenage girl to outcast in every aspect of her life

[–]joeflux 23 points24 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I really don't understand why they ruined stewie so much. It just seemed that everyone liked the evil stewie.

[–]IZ3820 5 points6 points ago

I like what they did with Stewie. They improved all of his relationships.

[–]candygram4mongo 7 points8 points ago

There's really only so much they could do with the "Evil Genius Stewie" thing without turning the show into Pinky & The Brain.

[–]DJWhamo 7 points8 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They try way too hard with Brian. He started out being the voice of reason, which people liked. So Seth decided to develop the character more, and began projecting his personal views through him. People apparently thought this was too preachy, so they changed gears again, and, starting with the episode where Quagmire epically told him off, they started going out of their way to make him look bad. That too, is getting annoying, so...

[–]CultureofInsanity 1 point2 points ago

I have been told by other reddit fans that American Dad has gradually surpassed it.

[–]OttoVonBirthmarck 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

American Dad is so much better than family guy, and has been since it's first season. Coincidentally, it is reported that Seth, thankfully, doesn't have much involvement with the writing of American Dad.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Other than Brian and Meg's character evolutions, I don't really mind the others. What I do mind is the incredibly vivid and blatant violence the recent two seasons have had. I LOVE blood and gore when it's done tastefully(?) but in something like Family Guy it's just so off putting and stupid.

[–]ArecBardwin 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I went from loving Family Guy when it came out, to thinking it was one of the least amusing shows on tv because of those character changes.

[–]Curbsidejohnman 12 points13 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah they did that with Scrubs too. Going from a show that bordered between comedy and drama to a full time comedy that occasionally got sad.

[–]SlimMaculate 101 points102 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, I didn't like what they did with Eric later in the series either. They tried way too hard to make him into a dumb comic relief character.

[–]Najmsh 35 points36 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

anybody remember that one random episode when they were in college where eric got mad at cory for not asking him to help clean out the garage and they got into a fight. it was the first time in years where eric actually got mad at something

[–]troublef 16 points17 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

He would pop out as a 3-dimensional character every now and then. I always liked him, but he did get annoying at times.

The garage episode was very good, I think most of my favorites are the ones where shit gets slightly real for a bit. When Cory and Topanga are breaking up in High School, the big break up, those episodes are so good.

[–]noxcovenant 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think most of my favorites are the ones where shit gets slightly real for a bit.

That happened every other episode with seasons 5 through 7. And I wasn't a huge fan of that. Way too serious. Every single thing Corey did, Topanga would make a big fuss and threaten divorce. Oh, and Shawn's Dad died during that shit too.

That's why I'm a big fan of the early episodes. Just joke after joke, and no sadness.

[–]troublef 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's a great point. The garage episode falls more into this category if I remember correctly. I believe the "shit gets real for a moment" episodes I enjoyed the most were all before college. It changed A LOT once that happened.

But I've always been jealous of their mess hall cabin-looking building they always hung out in. And Chubbies for that matter.

I love the episode where they just suddenly rewrite Topanga's history and say that her and Cory always dated, even though we watched a couple seasons of her being the weird hippie girl.

[–]JakeCameraAction 69 points70 points ago

I'll agree that they turned him into a dumb comic relief character, but I thought he was way funnier that way. His original character didn't really have much of a character at all.

[–]DevinDomino 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I enjoyed him when he was funnier and they also developed the character into someone with a very good heart!

[–]CDainMillr 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

IMO, he was my favorite character. When he had that heartfelt moment at the very end of the series - reading from the big huge book he had 'written' with only one page in it that said "Lose all friends, lose self" - Wow. That was profound. I get goosebumps thinking about it now. I feel like they were building him into a character where you really wouldn't expect that then did that one part. I still, to this day, think about that often.

[–]bfogarty27 14 points15 points ago

I think Jerkass Homer is the prime example of this. An albeit stupid, yet loving father turned into just a complete well, jerkass. However, I do appreciate some Jerkass Homer now and then. Surprisingly, Bart is the only one in the series who really has maintained much of his original intentions.

[–]FriedMattato 5 points6 points ago

And then he became Batman, so it all worked out in the end.

[–]bobbyhead 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, it's like he was developing a mental pathology, it was bizarre and surreal. It's like he was going mad because he realized he was a character in a fictitious world, and he was trying to poke the edges of that reality.

Jesus, now I think I am going insane.

I actually know the answer to this, but I doubt I'll be able to find a source. I believe I read it in the 90s in some article about the show (TV Guide, maybe?). Someone affiliated with the show, a producer maybe, was talking on his cell phone about how they needed a name for the female character ASAP. He was driving through Topanga Canyon (it's in the LA area) at the time, so they just used that.

[–]Stickyresin 8 points9 points ago

Many high school teachers continue their college education while they are working. It helps increase their value to their schools and allows them to explore new avenues in their classes and get additional funding for their school/department. Also, many public schools will pay for some or all of their teacher's courses.

American redditors tend to forget the international nature of Reddit, and hipsters/trolls get personally offended when you don't understand our memes and pop culture.

It's Boy Meets World. If you're a 20-something redditor from the US or thereabouts, you probably grew up really identifying with Cory from the series.

EDIT: And at one point, wanted to bang the hell out of Topanga.

I had to read the comments before even realizing this comic was referencing anything at all.

Reddit: 500 comments about topic. Never says name of topic.

This actually happened to my class. A teacher followed us up from Elementary School to Middle School and was about to move up to High School but was fired for Sexual Harassment.

Belding?

[–]TheRiff 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Not really. There were two spin-offs, one of which he only had a guest appearance, and the other was still set at the school with him still principal. The wedding movie he was invited to, but I don't remember his reason for being at the Hawaiian resort.

Sidenote: I absolutely hate this show, despite knowing so much about it.

No, but Screech did get a job as Belding's assistant.

It was weird that every class in Saved by the Bell college years was in the same class room. I think Fresh Prince of Bel Air went to the same school.

You guys got it all wrong. Feeny was just a good fucking guy. I mean yeah, it's definitely a coincidence that his teaching career aligned perfectly with my student life, but so what? He was there to guide me and the gang through all of our trials. Sure we hung out a lot, maybe even kissed a little, but to assume he's some sort of pederast just from that? The fact is, our relationship was special, and anyone who doesn't think so is just jealous that they didn't have someone like Mr. Feeny in their life.

He's the host of a popular television gameshow here in the United States (and Canada?) called "Jeopardy". He's been hosting it for 27 years.

This is my favorite Feeny scene from Boy Meets World. It's a brilliant spoof of William Daniels' role in The Graduate.

For those of you who haven't seen the film, here are two scenes that are being spoofed.

Jesus. This is how I felt with my middle school counselor. 6th grade counselor.. we were supposed to get a new one 7th and 8th grade, but I had him every year and he called me in on a regular basis just to talk about how my classes are going. then once I got into high school, I was in theater.. and he would show up every now and then to the high school theater and i was just like.. "Wtf is he doing Here?!"

I'm 29 and watched this show for several years. I get lost when people start talking about Pokemon around here, but I'm pretty sure this show debuted when I was in about 4th or 5th grade. ABC's TGIF lineup was a staple in my household.

Link. To. The. Original. Source. Why does nobody ever do that? It's far more work to screen shot it THEN upload it to imgur THEN post it. I've read so many great comics and I can't figure out the source because the person won't put it.

Sorry OP if you found it like this and not on collegehumor, but man it is frustrating
