Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

Dear All

First of all, thanks for comments. I am sorry if any one thought this picture was taken from the right spot at the right time. It could have been the case but unfortuneately not. Its just a "easy" task done in PS by using two layers.

When I loaded the image for critique it was off course putt under the category of "Digital Alteration".

I can't understand why one can't see the category chosen when you display photo?

Isn't it really obvious that it's fake? The bird and the plane are both in complete focus. I don't think you could get that shot unless the bird was flying really slow.

*A clue that this is most probably 'shopped is that the airliner's wings and horizontal stabilizer are not 90 degrees to the fuselage and yet the jet looks oddly flattened as if it was originally directly over the photographer. Likely a layer with the airliner was "skewed" to make the jet's contrails line-up with the bird. (That, and the photoshopper admits it's 'shopped.)

What an interesting phenomenon.

That bird is flying very quickly, so we can imagine that the fluid (air) is traveling very quickly across the bird's wings. If you look at a cross-section of the bird's wing, you'll see that it's shaped like an airfoil. The fluid flowing in a streamline across the top of the wingfoil flows in a curve, which is associated with a pressure gradient. This generates a lift force. This is how the bird stays afloat.

What you're seeing in the picture, however, is a preemptive and postemptive condensation trail generated by the bird's exhaust in the low pressure regions behind the bird.

This is somewhat similar to the Prandtl-Glauert singularity generated by birds crossing the sonic barrier, except the contrail is a sustained trail rather than a conical formation.

Birds are truly spectacular poop factories.
